Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson has once again linked up with PPTV to give our punters his insight for this weekend’s big games.
This time the Liverpool legend gives his completely non-partisan view on Everton vs Manchester United and predicts a battering for his old team Sheffield United as they head to west London to tackle Chelsea.
Everton v Manchester United
Wow, this is the ‘unconvincing derby’, isn’t it?! Oh wow! I mean, it’s amazing isn’t it because you’ve seen everybody on such a high at both clubs when the season started and what has happened? What a couple of weeks! I think you said to me last week that things can change dramatically and the pressure is on now. How will they react?
I think this is the last game of Richarlison’s ban, but Lucas Digne will be back for Everton. I think that will help them. But, in this one, I can see both teams scoring. I really can. The defences are not great.

MORE FROM THOMMO: Liverpool Should Sign Upamecano Despite Man Utd Shocker
Everton getting beat at Newcastle was a massive, massive blow to them. I thought they’d get something out of that game up there. But Dominic Calvert-Lewin got his goal, eight goals he’s is on this year, so he’s in fine form as an individual.
But, Manchester United… How do you beat PSG, how do you beat Leipzig, and then draw with Chelsea and play so poorly against Arsenal?
THOMMO’S TIP: It’s so hard to call, but I do think there will be goals and this one. I really do. I think that’s absolutely bang on and I do think Both Teams to Score and The Draw is going to come off.
Chelsea v Sheffield United
Since Edouard Mendy has come in, I think Chelsea have had five successive clean sheets which is astonishing when you think how they were leaking goals. It was incredible.
And it’s great because you would think Frank Lampard would like to be a very attacking manager, wanting to do things like that. But he’s realised and said, ‘Hold on guys, for us to be able to that we’ve got to have a good base and we’re conceding too many goals, teams are finding us out, let’s sure that up’.
He took a big decision ousting Kepa Arrizabalaga, bringing in Mendy. He’s got a similar back four but it seems to be working. I think the new players at Chelsea are starting to bed in now. I was glad when I saw the fixture list because Liverpool had Chelsea early on in the season. You knew these players were going to take time to settle.

MORE FROM THOMMO: Why Spurs Won’t Win The Title And My Big Fear For Bale
Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, who got another couple of goals midweek in the Champions League, they’re all starting to settle and he is finding his best team. We’re talking about [the problems they’re having] at Manchester United. Frank is finding his best team.
Sheffield United just cannot find it. It’s absolutely shocking. They’ve only scored three goals in seven matches. I think that tells you a lot because defensively if they do concede they’re not going to be able to score or get something back in the game and they are conceding. Again, they only lost 1-0 to Manchester City last week.
THOMMO’S TIP: I’m seeing a big win for Chelsea and it won’t be short. I’m going for 3-0 to Chelsea.
THOMMO’S SATURDAY DOUBLE
I’m going to go Chelsea to beat Sheffield United and West Ham to beat Fulham.
