We’re taking a look at three clashes from the German, Italian and French leagues for this week’s Friday European bet. In the Bundesliga, Union Berlin can get their first home win of the season should they overcome a Mainz team who are yet to win a league match this term.
In Italy, Fiorentina have looked impressive over their two matches and take on a Sampdoria side who look already like they could be in trouble, and finally to France where PSG can make it seven out of seven home wins against Angers. Let’s have a look then for some value in the betting markets.
7.30pm: Union Berlin vs Mainz – Union Berlin to Win & Over 2.5 Goals
Just like Mainz, Union are yet to win in the league and in their opening DFB Pokal match against Bundesliga II’s Karlsruher they needed a very, very late Extra Time goal to win. Mainz though aren’t exactly in good form. They’ve lost both of their opening Bundesliga matches, and they’ve at least scored a goal in each one, but they conceded four at home to Stuttgart and three away to RB Leipzig. Union, have also scored two so far and have conceded four over their two matches.
Over their two matches last season Union won 2-3 at Mainz while the home match for Union ended 1-1. The market is favouring the home side here which we must put down to Mainz’s awful goals against record. Just looking at last year’s record Union averaged 1.41 goals at home and conceded 1.18 while Mainz averaged 1.53 goals and conceded 2.12. Neither team is in the best of form but they’re both scoring and, in particular, conceding. With some home fans here that should swing it Union’s way but Mainz should be good for a goal, we’re going with Union to Win & Over 2.5 Goals.
7.45pm: Fiorentina vs Sampdoria – Fiorentina to Win
Two giants of Italian football meet on Friday night and the home side in particular look like they could be on their way back to the upper reaches of the Serie A table while Sampdoria look like a bit of a mess already and it could be a long season for them.
Fiorentina have looked quite exciting since the new season began, beating Torino 1-0 in their opening fixture and losing 4-3 away to Inter in a match they really threw away at the end. Hopefully though they’ll have learnt much from that experience and this young side could go on to great things over the season.
Sampdoria, on the other hand, were hammered 3-0 away to Juventus in their opening match and lost to newly-promoted Benevento at home last weekend. Manager Claudio Ranieri must be on borrowed time here, he’s only won 11 of his 34 matches in charge of the Blucerchiati.
Fiorentina are unbeaten in their five most recent home Serie A matches while Sampdoria have won two, lost two and drawn one of their five most recent away league matches. The home side have beaten Sampdoria here in two of their three last meetings in all competitions and with home form on their side here we’re backing them to take the three points.
8pm: PSG vs Angers – PSG to Win to Nil
PSG look like they’ve come out of that blip earlier this season intact. Since losing 0-1 at home to Marseille they’ve won their last three matches in the league, keeping a Clean Sheet in all of them. Angers have started the season fairly well, they’ve won three and lost two of their five matches but they’re struggling for goals with just six for and eight against.
PSG have also won three and lost two and been somewhat goal-shy, scoring six as well but have only conceded two. They’ve kept Angers scoreless in two from two previous visits to Paris and with the home side’s defence looking in solid form we’re backing them to Win to Nil here.
