Fresh from a tonking midweek by the league runners-up Man City, Watford go into the last game of the season looking likely to be relegated. WHY DID THEY SACK NIGEL PEARSON? WHY?
I have no idea, they were clueless last match and had their keeper to thank for not conceding 10 against City.
Villa’s 1-0 win during the week (against Arsenal) has pushed the Hornets into the final day dog fight.
Typically these fixtures throw up some very odd results for a variety of different reasons but looking at Arsenal’s price, they’re pretty good value considering they’re at home.
Our football tips for the final day in the Premier League:
- Man Utd to get the job done in Champions League battle at Leicester
- Chelsea to be left feeling blue as Wolves head to Stamford Bridge
- Can Villa get the job done at West Ham?
- Don’t expect the great escape from Bournemouth in trip to Everton
Arsenal to win
Let’s be having some of that. Some simple facts to back this up: Watford have lost 5 on the bounce away from home in the EPL, while Arsenal have won 5 of their last 6 home matches in the top flight.
Watford winning still doesn’t guarantee them safety as Aston Villa play away to West Ham. It looks to me that this Watford team already know their fate and will be plying their trade in the Championship next season.
Arsenal do have the FA cup final on the horizon the following Saturday but I really think this will be a walk in the park for them.
With their front three likely to be Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe I can just smell the goals here, can you? Arsenal will dominate play and possession and once Arsenal go a goal up the flood gates may open. Who knows what might happen then?
There have been 3 or more goals in each of Watford’s last 6 EPL matches, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this happened again at the Emirates.
Aubameyang to score the first goal
Pierre-Emerick Aubamayeng is 3 goals behind Jamie Vardy in the race for the golden boot and will be keen to push as hard as he can, and the Gunners captain to score the first goal here will be my first play of the game.
Watford to have a red card
Previous fixtures between these two teams have resulted in a high number of cards being shown. Watford will be lucky not to the team with the higher card count again and when the game gets away from them, a red card will be on the cards.
Similar to the midweek fixture, Watford will concede and will be lucky to not concede a lot, so a small play on Arsenal to win 3-1 or 4-1 both look nice to have in your wallet.
It’s curtains for the men from Vicarage Road and their cross-town rivals will help them on their way.
