The world’s greatest centre back impressionist David Luiz welcomed back the return of the Premier League last night, by being at fault for not one but two goals v Man City – lovely stuff. What do if you’re a few weeks away from being out of contract and you’re desperate to woo your boss on your first game back?
Well, if your Mr.Luiz, you produce stats like so:
Stats:
26 minutes played
1 error leading to a goal
1 penalty conceded
1 red card
Sensational, David, sensational. If 2020 was a defender, eh?
We’re not even sure the great Phil Jones could amass such impressive numbers. No doubt, he had a ball watching anyway.
Luiz’s performance was so above (or below – whichever way you look at it) his standard display of pure crap, we had no choice but to price up whether or not he will stay at Arsenal, as his contract runs down.
We make it 1/7 that he never plays in England again after the end of his contract or just 5/1 that he doesn’t feature for Mikel Arteta’s side again this season. In fact, he’s also short-priced to call it a day once his contract comes to an end, with our traders rating him just 3/1 to retire at the end of the season.

However, the favourite next destination for the centre-back is China (5/4) or any club in the MLS (3/1). Elsewhere, Benfica are priced at 10/1 to sign him, while Newcastle are the most likely English club to give him a new contract at 12/1.
In terms of other players who are weeks away from being out of contract with their clubs, Willian is rated 11/5 to sign for Tottenham, while Jan Vertonghen is evens to join Inter Milan.
DAVID LUIZ SPECIAL ODDS:
1/7 Never to play in England again after the end of the season
3/1 To retire at the end of the season
5/1 Not to play for Arsenal again this season
DAVID LUIZ NEXT CLUB ODDS:
5/4 Any Chinese club
3/1 Any MLS club
10/1 Benfica
12/1 Newcastle
40/1 Chelsea
100/1 Barcelona
