My favourite thing about being a fan of a Championship club, and a rubbish one at that, is I can objectively sit back and watch manic Premier League Sundays with absolutely no anxiety whatsoever, then laugh at my mates as they go pale as results sway throughout the two hours of play.
The issue with segmentation is that you rarely get the chance to have results occur simultaneously because everyone wants to watch the games individually, before wondering how the weekend went by so quickly. Mate, it’s because you spent sixteen hours watching nonsense, headlined by Burnley against Crystal Palace.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Days like Sunday are more convenient and a tad more exciting, so I’m here to potentially add another element of madness and excitement to an already-crazy couple of hours. There’s five fixtures on at 2pm and there’s so much to play for that you’d want a permutations sheet the length of your uncle’s accumulator slip to be able to keep track of it all.
But one thing I can tell you is whether or not both teams are likely to score. Don’t ask me how, it’s a weird, rare gift. Just like them fellas on YouTube who do the voices. Except, I’m making you money and they’re making you bitter.

Aston Villa v Crystal Palace – Yes
On average since the Premier League went to a 38-round season, we’ve seen some trends. The highest-scoring matchweek of the season has always been 38, generally because teams need to score goals; their expectations and end-results are defined, and/or teams have nothing to lose and can play without pressure, often for the first time in a season.
Week 37, by contrast, has been one of the lowest-scoring matchweeks. Generally because sides are tentative and are happy to let their fates be decided with one final, focused fixture. Nothing can go wrong for Villa and Palace, though. And, bar that narrow defeat to Liverpool, both are in relatively rich form too. I fancy a Yes here.
Leeds v Brighton – Yes
Leeds can actually be relegated on Thursday if they don’t win this game, so you can bet your life they’ll be committing seven and eight men forward with every attack. For all that they’re absolutely gone in my mind anyway, I’d like to thank them for being so hilariously nonchalant about survival and doing absolutely everything to not resemble Bournemouth.
Under Jesse Marsch, they might be going down but they are going down in a blaze of glory that resembles a shootout in the Wild Wild West. Haha, Wild Wild West Yorkshire, more like. Yes, again.
Watford v Leicester – No
Already-relegated teams have an abysmal record on the final days of seasons because, despite the cliché, absolutely nobody is playing for a move, nor are any teams watching a rubbish side in a game that doesn’t matter for any indication on future recruitment.
Imagine players walking into a ground where they’ve let thousands of people down every fortnight for a year, for the culmination of that upset in their final home game. It’s a No from me.
West Ham v Man City – No
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Man City don’t concede goals anyway, really. So factor in a more reserved performance where they’re focused primarily on just winning rather than running up a score and you’ll have this game.
West Ham have Brighton on the final day and they’ll probably roll the dice there rather than here. In West Ham’s last few games against somewhat functional opponents, they’ve failed to net – losing 1-0 to Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United. No again.
Wolves v Norwich – No
Playing Man City will hurt you. There’s also a lingering sense that Kevin De Bruyne himself would have toppled Wolves the other night, so their confidence is probably at an all-time low – and given Norwich are deflated anyway, backing goals here seems a strange play. Three No’s in a row to round us off.
