For Tuesday’s football Acca we have some mouth-watering matches from the summits and nadirs of La Liga, the Scottish Premiership and, of course, the Premier League.
In a make-or-break encounter, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool visit Villa Park to take on former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa in an attempt to wrestle top spot back off Manchester City. They’ll need to win by five goals to do so, can they? Let’s get stuck in then and see where we’ve found some value in the betting markets.

19:00 Granada vs Athletic Bilbao: Granada to Win or Draw
Granada sit just two points above Mallorca on 32 points, the latter are the highest-placed of the three teams occupying the relegation zone and now it looks like it’ll be one of Mallorca, Granada and Cadiz who will be banished to La Liga II next season.
Granada made quite the statement over the weekend beating Mallorca 2-6 away from home and have now gone three games undefeated, winning one of their last five, drawing two and losing two. At the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes they’ve drawn three and lost two.
Bilbao have won two, drawn two and lost one over their last five La Liga encounters. Their away form isn’t great, it must be said, with one win, one draw and three losses and while they’ve failed to score in three of those matches. The Nazaries have beaten the visitors in four of their last five meetings here and with their form improving of late, matched with the Los Leones’ lacklustre away form we should give the nod to the hosts.
However, some caution is advised as both sides tend to draw quite a few so let’s take some insurance here; we’re backing the home side on the Double Chance market.
19:45 Dundee vs Hibernian: Under 2.5 Goals
Dundee have a small – very small – chance of Premiership survival. They need to win their remaining two games and St Johnstone will need to lose their remaining matches and then Dundee will have to play either Kilmarnock or Arbroath in a relegation/promotion playoff.
So, there’s a sliver of hope but their recent results show they’ve now gone 12 games without a victory. Of their last five they’ve drawn three and lost two and of their last five at Dens Park share the same record.
Hibs’ form isn’t exactly spectacular either. They’ve won just one of their last five in all competitions, drawing one and losing three. Away from home in the league they’ve won one, drawn one and lost three, scoring just three goals. The Dark Blues have scored just four over their last five at home so with both teams struggling in front of the sticks we’re unlikely to see a goalfest here; we’re backing Under 2.5 Goals.
20:00 Aston Villa vs Liverpool: Liverpool to Win to Nil
Can Liverpool score five goals to top the Premier League against their former captain’s side? The odds would suggest, well, maybe.
At 9/2 for Liverpool to win and Over 4.5 goals it’s around an 18% chance according to the market but Villa have now gone three games without losing, drawing 0-0 with Leicester away from home, beating Norwich 2-0 at Villa Park and beating Burnley 1-3 at Turf Moor over the weekend.
On home soil in the Premier League, the Villans have won two of their last five, losing three, scoring six and conceding six, failing to score in three of those matches.
Liverpool have won six of their last seven in all competitions, drawing the other one and have won three and drawn two over their last five Premier League encounters. On their league travels they’ve won five of their last six, drawing the other one, scoring 11 and conceding three, keeping four clean sheets.
Over their last 10 in the league, the Reds have kept eight clean sheets and with Villa failing to score in three of their last five at home, we’re getting a great value price here for Liverpool to Win to Nil.
20:30 Barcelona vs Celta Vigo: Barcelona to Win to Nil
It would be facetious of us to suggest Barcelona have had a good season but they’re still likely to finish La Liga in second position after what has been a terrible start to their campaign.
Of their last 10 games in all competitions they’ve won six, drawing one and losing three while over their last five La Liga games have won three and lost two. At the Nou Camp, Barca have won three and lost two over their last five league games played there.
Celta Vigo have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five league encounters and have won one, drawn one and lost three of their last five on their La Liga excursions. Xavi’s side have kept three clean sheets over their last six home league games while Celta have scored just three over their last six away league fixtures, failing to score in four of those six games meaning the value here is in backing Barcelona to Win to Nil.
