Manchelter United host Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night with the tie currently sitting at 1-1.
The Premier League side were incredibly fortunate to come away from the first leg in Madrid with anything, with Atletico hitting the woodwork twice and United only pulling level following a defensive slip with ten minutes remaining.

Manchester United v Atletico Madrid, Tuesday 15th March, 8pm
TV: BT Sport 2
Manchester United to win
United were somewhat caught unawares by Atletico’s bold approach in Madrid, but they should be better prepared for it at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. Ralf Rangnick’s side come into this game with huge momentum following Saturday’s unconvincing but hugely important 3-2 win over top four rivals Tottenham.
United were unimpressive for large parts, but the manner of victory should have gone a long way towards erasing the chastising memories of the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City a week previous.
Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, have reignited their own top four challenge in recent weeks, winning three games on the bounce since that draw with United to pull two points clear of fifth-placed Real Betis.
However, Atletico are clearly not the same side that won La Liga last season and United have a real opportunity to make the last eight for the first time in three years.
Both teams to score
Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone are synonymous with watertight defences and low-scoring games, especially in Europe. But that has not been the case this season. Atletico have conceded 36 goals in 28 La Liga games – 11 more than the conceded in their entire title-winning campaign last season – and have conceded nine goals in seven European games, managing just one clean sheet.
On the one occasion that they managed a shutout in Europe, they had some ludicrous decision-making to thank after Porto were denied a perfectly legitimate goal in the dying stages of their 0-0 draw on the opening night of the Champions League.
United, on the other hand, can never be relied upon to keep a clean sheet, as Saturday’s back and forth encounter with Tottenham proved. They have managed just three clean sheets in their last 12 games in all competitions and although they look significantly better defensively under Rangnick, they are still prone to moments of utter calamity.
They will likely have to score twice if they are to advance to the last eight on Tuesday.

Cristiano Ronaldo to have three or more shots in the first half
Cristiano Ronaldo put two torrid months behind him with a brilliant hat-trick against Tottenham and should be in a confident mood against his old foes on Tuesday night. Ronaldo has struggled in the Premier League at various times this season, but his record in Europe remains genuinely impressive, scoring six goals in six appearances to help United remain in the competition.
Ronaldo attempts more shots than any United player and it is certainly a case of quantity over quality at times for the Portuguese forward. He attempts more than four shots per game in the league and just under four shots per game in Europe, often trying his luck from impossible positions.
Ronaldo is likely to be full of confidence against Atletico on Tuesday following Saturday’s heroics against Spurs, a game where he attempted eight shots on goal.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see him attempt a similar number of shots on Tuesday night given that he will look to sustain his goalscoring momentum, especially early on.

Bruno Fernandes anytime assist
Bruno Fernandes set up Anthony Elanga for United’s equaliser in Madrid to maintain his record of registering an assist in every Champions League game he’s played.
The Portuguese midfielder leads the way in Champions League assists with six to his name after six games and has set up more goals than any United player this season, despite handing Paul Pogba a seven-assist head start after four games.
Despite his obvious struggles, Fernandes has set up 13 goals in all competitions for United this season and is by far the most likely United player to unlock the Atletico defence on Tuesday, provided he recovers from the illness that kept him out of Saturday’s game against Tottenham.
