WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS
For Wednesday night’s football we’ll be looking at some huge cup matches from across Europe where we have Sporting Lisbon hosting Porto in Portugal and Fiorentina taking on the might of Juventus. We’ll also be looking at the Scottish Premiership title race with both Celtic and Rangers in action, but first off the FA Cup clash between Southampton and West Ham gets us started here.

7.30pm: Southampton vs West Ham: BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals
TV: BBC Red Button, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Website
Both of these Premier League sides come into this one on the back of some good form; the Saints have won three of their last five, drawing two, winning one in extra time, while West Ham have won two and drawn three, winning one in extra time as well. Southampton’s form at home has seen them winning three of their last five, drawing two (winning one in ET) and scored at least two goals in four of those games.
West Ham have won two, drawn two (winning one in ET) and lost one over their last five on their travels. The Hammers have also scored at least two in four of those last five and with those goal-scoring records between them we have to go with the value price for Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals here.
7.45pm: Celtic vs St Mirren: Celtic to Win 1-0, 2-0, or 3-0
As it currently stands in the Scottish Premiership table Celtic are top on 67 points with Rangers just three points behind in second place. The hosts aren’t exactly in smashing form of late, they’ve won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five in all competitions but their league form is mighty; having now gone 22 games without defeat. On home turf they’ve won all seven of their most recent league games, scoring at least two goals in four of them and keeping five clean sheets.
St Mirren’s away league form is decent with two wins, one draw and two losses but their visits to Celtic Park have been atrocious, winning just one of their last 10 there and, over their last five, only scored in one of those fixtures. Celtic to Win to Nil is an option but there’s better value odds in backing Celtic to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0.
7.45pm: St Johnstone vs Rangers: Both Teams to Score
St Johnstone’s form makes for some dire reading. The Saints have won just one of their last five fixtures, drawing two and losing two and share the same record over their last five Premiership games at McDiarmid Park. Rangers’ overall form has seen them winning two and drawing three over their five most previous fixtures while their league form has seen them winning two, drawing two and losing one.
Away from home they’ve won just one, drawing three and losing one and conceded at least one in four of those games and in their last four overall games too. The hosts always make the Gers work for the points here and we’ve seen Both Teams to Score landing in three of their last four meetings in Perth and with Ranger’s defence conceding so many of late we’re getting some decent odds here for Both Teams to Score occurring again.

8pm: Fiorentina vs Juventus: Both Teams to Score
TV: Premier Sports 1
Fiorentina have won three of their last five games in all competitions, losing the other two, while on home soil they’ve won three, drawing one and losing one, scoring 11 and conceding six. Juventus have won two of their last five, drawing the other three and their away form has seen them winning just one, drawing four, losing one in extra time, scoring a total of six over that period and conceding four. With Fiorentina in such great goal-scoring form and Juventus’ defence still looking shaky on the road there’s value here in backing Both Teams To Score.
8.45pm: Sporting vs Porto: Porto or Draw
Neither side will be too happy with their recent form coming into this Portuguese Cup game. The hosts have won two of their last five fixtures, drawing two and losing one. Their home form is better though with three wins and two losses. Porto are undefeated over their last 16 games in all competitions but over their last five have won just two, drawing the other three, they’ve won 13 of those last 16 overall.
Away from home the Dragoes have won four of their last five, drawing the other and have only lost one (in normal time) away to Sporting over their last six visits. Porto’s away form should be the difference here so we’re opposing the hosts and backing Porto or Draw in the Double Chance market.
