Leeds +2

Leeds appear to have turned a corner in recent weeks and would have been good value for a draw at Stamford Bridge on Saturday had they managed to hang on in injury time.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side had taken 10 points from their seven games prior to that Chelsea defeat, going some way to easing their relegation fears.

Leeds have now witnessed late drama in their last three games, scoring deep into injury time to snatch a win against Crystal Palace and rescue a draw against Leeds before conceding a late penalty on Saturday in a heated encounter at Stamford Bridge.

BT Sport 2

Bielsa’s side’s record against the Big Six has been poor this season, losing four games out of four and conceding 13 goals in the process, but they should take some comfort from the fact that Man City were the only top six club that they beat in the league last season.

City, though top of the league and coming into this game on the back of six straight league wins, have not exactly been convincing in recent weeks, falling over the line against 10-man Wolves on Saturday and struggling to blow the likes of Watford and West Ham away as they would have done in the past.

They should be able to gain some revenge for April’s home defeat to Leeds, but it should be closer than the odds suggest.

Both Teams to Score

Chelsea’s recent defensive mini-slump has seen Manchester City become statistically the best defensive team in the league.

Pep Guardiola’s side have conceded nine goals in 16 league games this season – the fewest in the division – while they have also kept the second-highest number of clean sheets in the league.

Having said that, City have looked vulnerable in recent weeks, conceding three of their last four league games.

Their only clean sheet in that spell came against Wolves on Saturday after Bruno Lage’s side were reduced to ten on the stroke of half time due to Raul Jimenez’s moment of madness.

Leeds, for all their failings against the big six this season, have scored in all three away games against Tottenham, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

They have only failed to score at a big six ground on one occasion since their return to the Premier League in 2020 – a 3-0 defeat at Tottenham last season – and are capable of scoring against any opponent on their day, even a defensively imperious Manchester City outfit.

Raheem Sterling to Score Anytime

Sterling finally broke the 100-goal mark in the Premier League with a penalty against Wolves on Saturday and seems to have rediscovered his goalscoring touch over the last month.

He has now scored four goals in all competitions over the last three weeks and has scored in back-to-back league games for the first time since February.

He can continue his form against a Leeds side that are the exact type of team that Sterling is currently flourishing against.

All but one of Sterling’s four league goals this season have come against clubs in the bottom half of the league, while all but one of the six goals he has scored in all competitions have come at the Etihad.

He has an excellent opportunity to add further momentum to his underwhelming campaign to date.

Kevin De Bruyne Anytime Assist

It is somewhat difficult to believe that Kevin De Bruyne is yet to register an assist for Manchester City this season.

City’s creator-in-chief has struggled for form and fitness so far this season but has gotten some minutes under his belt after a Covid setback and should be ready to flourish against a Leeds side that will give him opportunities to create.

Despite the stop-start nature of his campaign to date, De Bruyne averages 1.8 key passes per game in the Premier League and 2.2 key passes per game in Europe.

He has the tools to unlock a Leeds defence that has conceded 25 goals in their opening 16 games.
