It’s crunch time in Group B at the European Championships tonight, but Belgium have the luxury of knowing their passage to the next stage of the tournament is secure before they take on Finland at 8pm in Saint Petersburg.
Back-to-back wins over Russia and Denmark have Roberto Martinez’s men sitting pretty on top of the group with six points. That total also affords the world ranked number one side the opportunity to rest some key stars tonight ahead of the upcoming knockout phase.
Monday 20:00 – Finland v Belgium
BBC One
It’s a different story for Finland, as they will probably need at least a point to move on in the competition after coming unstuck against Russia last time out. The Fins have already preformed above expectations to be in this position though, after beating Denmark in strange circumstances in their opening fixture.
It doesn’t get much more daunting on the international stage then needing a result against Belgium, so the plucky Fins have it all to do in this one. But, what to bet on? Well, we’ve got Andy Robson’s data-loaded cheat sheet to help you with that!
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Kevin De Bruyne To Have 2 Or More Shots On Target
What a difference Kevin De Bruyne made off the bench last week, assisting the equaliser and scoring the winner against Denmark in a stunning second-half display. Roberto Martinez has confirmed De Bruyne will start this game and the Man City man will be stood over any scorable free kicks and penalties. He averages 1.29 shots on target, and you expect Belgium to dominate Finland leading to plenty of shots from their star man.
Eden Hazard To Have 1 Or More Shots On Target
Like Kevin De Bruyne, Martinez also confirmed that Eden Hazard will in his starting line-up at the Krestovsky Stadium and you would fancy him to grab at least one shot on target. He doesn’t feature on the cheat sheet due to lack of game time, but we all know how good he can be on his day. The Real Madrid man should find enough space against this Finnish defence to hit the target at least once.
Belgium (-1)
Despite some rotation, you’d have to believe Belgium will put Finland to the sword here. The Red Devils have won nine of their last 11 and have looked like real contenders to win this tournment, even more so with Kevin De Bruyne on the pitch. Finland, on the other hand, have a only single victory in their last eight matches, losing five of those.
Under 3.5 Cards
Felix Brych isn’t a card friendly referee by any stretch, in fact he has the second lowest yellow card per game average at the Euros with just 2.59. The fact Belgium are already qualified will have an effect on the intensity of the game, and that could result less needless fouls – especially, if the Belgians run out to a good lead.
