Tottenham are just five points off the Champions League places, but the chances of them reeling Chelsea in between now and May remain decidedly remote. There are just too many points – and places – for Spurs to make up with just five games remaining this season and they could easily be heading for a place in the inaugural Europa Conference League if results don’t go in their favour.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Having said that, Spurs have a favourable run-in and have a chance to put pressure on the teams above them, especially against already-relegated Sheffield United. With just four points to their name in 16 games away from Bramall Lane, Sheffield United boast a comically bad away record this season.

Safe bet: Tottenham (-1)

The Blades have by far and away the worst away record in the division, losing 14 games and boasting a goal difference of -24. They have only managed to score seven goals in 16 games on their travels and it still beggars belief that a high-flying Manchester United side were the only side to lose to them on their own patch.

However, the Blades have lost all six away league games since that unlikely triumph at Old Trafford, scoring just one goal in the process, and Tottenham (-1) should make light work of them, even if they offered next to nothing in their League Cup final defeat to Manchester City last weekend.

Value Bet: Harry Kane to score two or more goals

Harry Kane was noticeably sluggish in last week’s League Cup final after prematurely recovering from an injury, but he should be much sharper this week given that he has had seven days to recover. Kane currently leads Mohamed Salah by one goal in the race for the golden boot and will be desperate to increase that buffer against the Premier League’s basement club.

He has scored five of Spurs’ last eight league goals – an impressive feat considering he missed their most recent league game – and has bagged two braces since the international break at the end of March. Kane has scored 12 goals against sides in the bottom half, while he has scored four times against the current bottom three.

You wouldn’t bet against him adding to that tally significantly on Sunday. The England forward has already bagged five braces in the league this season and we’re getting decent value on Harry Kane to score two or more goals against Sheffield United.

Long shot: Tottenham to win 4-0

Tottenham had only two shots in their meek League Cup final defeat to City and appeared for all the world to be playing for a penalty shootout, but their approach should be drastically different against Sheffield United on Sunday. Ryan Mason selected an attacking team in his previous Premier League outing against Southampton and should do so again on Sunday, especially with Harry Kane back to full fitness.

Mason could go with a front three of Kane, Gareth Bale, and Son Heung-Min on Sunday and such a potent front three could cause serious damage against a Sheffield United defence that has shipped 31 goals on the road. Kane, who is vying for top scorer, will surely be in the mood against the Blades, while all six of Bale’s league goals for Spurs this season have come in home wins against sides in the bottom half of the table.

For all of Spurs’ many faults this season, they have still enjoyed a smattering of emphatic victories against relegation fodder and they could enjoy another easy win this weekend. Tottenham to Win 4-0 is my long shot in this game.
