Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson has put his wits up against our trader Brian McDonnell ahead of the huge clash between Liverpool and Manchester City on Sunday. Will the Liverpool legend keep the faith with his Reds? Of course he will. But can he convince Brian? No chance.

I’m feeling confident to be honest. I know there’s a few Liverpool fans who’ve said they’re going to be watching it from behind the couch. I think motivation has been one of our problems for a lot of the games this season and I think they’ll be fired up for this one.
I think questions have been raised after the Brighton loss but I do fancy Liverpool against Man City. It’s obviously going to be tight but I do think Liverpool will Win this game.
I fancy Both Teams To Score, you’ve seen the way they play. Liverpool have not been prolific at home but this is a completely different game to what they’ve been faced with in the last couple of weeks at Anfield.
I think Mo Salah will Score Anytime and Gabriel Jesus seems to be getting a little sniff of a goal back so I think Jesus to Score Anytime is a good bet as well.

I admire Phil’s confidence in Liverpool but if you look at their home form since Christmas and Manchester City’s form they’re a million miles apart, really. It’s not the same Liverpool that we saw last season.
I counted that they were missing eight players last time out against Brighton that would have been pushing to start so it’s logical that they’re not as good as they were last season. Their home form last season was impeccable, they only dropped points in one game. They’ve now dropped points in each of their last four home games.
They’re badly missing the effect the crowd has at Anfield as well in these big games. City haven’t won at Anfield since 2003 but they’ve also never played at Anfield without a crowd and that’s where I think there’s a big disadvantage for Liverpool and an advantage for City.
The way that both teams are going now I’d be confident enough to back a Man City Win in this one. Thommo was the assistant manager the last time City won at Anfield so I’d be expecting something similar with maybe Gabriel Jesus to Score Anytime.
