Reports: Van Nistelrooy refusing to leave Man United manager office

He's not leaving!

Three days after his final match in charge of Manchester United, Ruud van Nistelrooy remains locked inside the Old Trafford home dressing-room, refusing to come out until he is given the promise of a new role at the Theatre of Dreams.

The former United and Holland frontman, is even convinced he should have got the gig on a permanent basis, despite the club appointing Ruben Amorim as Head Coach on Monday.

“He’s been holed up in there for more than 72 hours” a spokesperson told Paddy Power News, “He also claims he’s got enough Gatorade and energy gels to survive until the end of the international break.”

Despite having the best record of any manager in the club’s history, United have announced that van Nistelrooy will not even feature in Amorim’s new-look backroom staff, despite remaining undefeated during his four matches in charge.

Following Sunday’s win over Leicester City, van Nistelrooy is understood to have taken the news badly which has now led to the current stand-off.

There have also been more issues surrounding the arrival of the former Sporting boss, with reports suggesting that someone had decked out the managers office at Carrington in Benfica scarves and flags, something that van Nistelrooy vehemently denies.

United’s Head of Football Operations, Sir Dave Brailsford, has been locked in talks with the Dutchman since Sunday evening to try to calm the waters and convince him to give himself up.

“The cleaners need to get in and so does the kitman” Brailsford told local reporters, “We have raffled off those special poppy shirts from Sunday’s game and need to get them dispatched.”

Greater Manchester police and local fire crews are also at the scene, with latest reports suggesting that van Nistelrooy has until midnight on Thursday to give himself up voluntarily or face the prospect of being taken out of there by force.

Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown, who has history with the former United striker, is thought to have volunteered his services should that situation arise.

We also understand that UEFA are monitoring the situation closely and were due to present van Nistelrooy with a “Carbon Footprint of the Year” gong at their headquarters in Nyon later this week, in recognition of the fact that he did not have to leave Manchester during his time in charge and that he was able to commute to Carrington and Old Trafford on a bicycle.
