Live football will break new ground this weekend, when subscribers will have exclusive access to “Chelsea bench cam” as the West London club visits Molyneux to face Wolves.
Sunday afternoon’s Premier League clash will give viewers the choice to either watch the match in the traditional way, or alternatively, press the red button and spend the entire 90/100 minutes, solely focusing on Enzo Maresca and his ever-expanding band of non-playing playing staff.
After last weekend’s ESPN experiment, where the US broadcaster gave viewers the chance to focus solely on Kylian Mbappe, a spokesperson told Paddy Power News:
“There is a market for this, with Chelsea now containing a squad of 43 players, the public will be fascinated to see the bickering that goes on when you try to keep this many egos happy.”
They also explained that they plan to roll-out in-game competitions such as “Guess The Player” and “Musical Chairs,” where players will sit in a different seat for the second-half, with viewers having to work out just who the hell they are.
Last weekend, in their season opener against Manchester City, Blues fans were shocked to see incidents of ear flicking and hair pulling, as players who are earning nearly 400 grand a week, behaved like naughty school children. One report stated that an unnamed Chelsea player left Stamford Bridge with his back completely covered in gob.
With another six new players likely to arrive before the weekend, Chelsea execs have taken drastic action, by bringing in a high-profile wedding organiser to try to get the seating arrangements spot on and prevent a repeat of last weekend’s behaviour.
They admitted to us that it had been “difficult to say the least,” explaining that:
“Such and such don’t want to be anywhere near so and so, and what you call it stopped talking to thingy ma jig ages ago.
“We have organised weddings for some of Hollywood’s A-listers, but this has been by far the hardest seating plan we have ever been tasked with.”
Chelsea’s extended squad may have caused plenty of in-fighting, but with the club having had to build a third tier on their team bus, not everyone is unhappy with the new arrangements. One of the team drivers told us:
“Couldn’t wait for the whip-round on Sunday” and that they had “Already put a deposit down on a beachside villa in Barbados” in anticipation of what they could earn.
