The Carabao Cup final takes place this weekend as Chelsea and Liverpool battle it out for the first major trophy of the season at Wembley Stadium.
The Blues entered the competition at the second-round stage, whereas the Reds entered in the third round due to their participation in the Europa League.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have had the easier run to the final, overcoming all of their opponents within normal time. Chelsea, however, only narrowly made it past the quarter-finals after beating Newcastle in a tense penalty shootout.
Mauricio Pochettino’s expensively-assembled outfit also survived a shock semi-final first-leg defeat to Championship club Middlesbrough before recovering in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge to make it to the showpiece.
It will be their tenth EFL Cup final and Liverpool’s fourteenth, the latter being a record for most appearances. This will also be the sides’ third meeting in the final of this competition, with Chelsea winning their 2005 encounter and Liverpool emerging successful in 2022.
Given the impressive form shown by the Reds across all competitions this season, you would fancy them to lift their eighth trophy under Klopp, who is walking away at the end of the season.
As for Chelsea, they haven’t lifted a major trophy since 2021, when they dramatically defeated Manchester City to win the Champions League for the second time in ten years, but it’s been all change since then as Todd Boehly’s splashed the cash to little effect.
