Paddy Power SUSPEND betting on Lee Carsley being next Ireland manager

Looks like Lee's our man.

Lee Carsley

Paddy’s tip-top football trading team have, this morning, suspended betting on the Next Ireland Manager markets with Lee Carsley expected to be the man chosen to replace Stephen Kenny.

Carsley made 40 appearances for the Republic Of Ireland in a playing career that took in the sights and sounds of Derby, Blackburn, Coventry, Everton and Birmingham City.

Since retiring in 2011 the former midfielder has held a number of roles including jobs with the youth teams at Brentford and Manchester City as well as, most recently, with England’s Under 20s and Under 21s.

The 49-year-old was the favourite for the Ireland hot seat and was as short as 3/10 before Paddy’s traders pulled the plug on the market with them thinking it’s now a done deal he finally replaces Kenny.

It’s been a long wait to find Kenny’s successor with it being confirmed that his contract wouldn’t be renewed way back on November 22nd after another poor qualification campaign.

There had been green shoots of promise with an eye-catching playing style and young players bloodied but the results didn’t match the expectation and the wait for a major competition qualification goes on.

Carsley fought off competition from the likes of former Celtic boss Neil Lennon and axed Ghana gaffer Chris Hughton as well as Chris Coleman, Roy Keane and Sam Allardyce who all featured prominently in Paddy’s Next Ireland manager markets.
