AFCON odds: Who are the favourites to win the Africa Cup of Nations 2024?

Can Senegal retain the trophy?

The Africa Cup of Nations is back with a bang as some of the world’s best players battle for continental glory.

One of the most enjoyable international tournaments on the calendar, AFCON sees 24 nations, including the defending champions Senegal, line up in the Ivory Coast for a month of smashing action.

This edition takes place in January and February, due to adverse summer weather conditions in the host nation, so Premier League clubs are set to be deprived of talent over the coming weeks.

The latest AFCON odds are on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise details of the leading contenders for glory in this year’s tournament can be found below.

It should come as no surprise that Morocco are the favourites with Paddy Power to win the Africa Cup of Nations 2024 after their historic run to the last four of the World Cup in 2022. The Atlas Lions’ heroes in Qatar including goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi, Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech and Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri will once again lead the team.

Senegal, the reigning champions, can be found towards the top of our outright winner market. The Lions of Teranga got their hands on the trophy for the first time in history after a penalty shootout success against Egypt in the final two years ago. A whole host of familiar faces including former Liverpool forward Sadio Mané, ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, Tottenham ace Pape Sarr and Fulham loanee Fodé Ballo-Touré feature in Aliou Cissé’s squad.

Algeria, who won the 2019 edition, are next in our betting as they boast a squad jam packed with talent including former Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez, AC Milan midfielder Ismaël Bennacer and Wolves full-back Rayan Aït-Nouri. The Fennec Foxes are bidding to bounce back from a group-stage exit in the previous tournament.

The hosts, Ivory Coast, also feature prominently in our market. The Elephants, who last lifted the trophy in 2015, lack the big-name stars of the Didier Drogba era but a number of Premier League aces including Nottingham Forest trio Serge Aurier, Willy Boly and Ibrahim Sangaré feature in Jean-Louis Gasset’s squad.
