Exclusive – Xavi says ‘Forget Scholes, Trent’s the best midfielder ever’

Used to be a big fan of the Ginger Wizard, but there's a new midfielder in town

Barcelona legend Xavi has announced that  Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as the greatest midfielder he’s ever seen.

When questioned by a supporter on how it feels being the best midfielder of all time, Xavi left them all baffled when he supposedly answered, “I don’t know, ask Trent”.

“It’s confusing as he said this about Paul Scholes ten years ago, so I guess he saw Alexander-Arnolds late equaliser away at City, and late winner at home to Fulham and decided to change his mind” confirmed a European football analyst.

Having recently switched from playing as a right-back to a midfielder, Alexander-Arnold has not only won the affections of Xavi, but also several Premier League pundits who have likened him with his two goals and two assists this season, to one of the greatest creative midfielders of a generation, Kevin De Bruyne.

“The pundits are spot on – Trent is genuinely better than De Bruyne in that midfield role” a Liverpool supporter told local press after their recent win.

“He strikes a ball better than Gabriel Batistuta, has a better passing range than David Beckham, is more intricate than Mesut Ozil and has more potential in that position than Jude Bellingham.

“Dare I say, he’s even better than Stevie G” continued the delirious fan.

In order to back up the claims of Xavi and the Liverpool faithful and truly confirm Trent is truly the greatest midfielder the world has ever seen, Paddy Power News contacted a variety of football legends for expert opinion on 25-year-old, and here’s what they told us.

“Keane and Scholes wouldn’t have got a look in during the 1999 season if I had Trent in my United squad.” former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson opined, while “he’s so good he makes me wish I never played the game as now I look sh*t,” World Cup winner and France legend Zinedine Zidane told our reporter.

“Trent deserves the Ballon d’Or in 2024, not me” admitted Erling Haaland through tears of frustration.

When reached for comment, England boss Gareth Southgate simply said: “I called this years ago. Up yours, Jurgen.”

While Arsenal issued a statement suggesting they could consider replacing their Thierry Henry statue with one of the erstwhile Liverpool full-back if he puts another two or three half-decent performances in this season, just cos it’d be nice.

And, according to our sources, Real Madrid are plotting a move to buy Kylian Mbappe for £200m and then offer both the French forward AND Jude Bellingham in exchange for Alexander-Arnold, such has been the impression his move into midfield has made on director Florentino Perez.

“You say Galacticos, I say there is only one – Trent,” the 76-year-old told Marca when discussing future plans.
