The marathon slog that is the EFL Championship returns for another season as 24 teams aim to realise their dreams of reaching the Premier League promised land.

Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton drop down after suffering relegation from the top flight while we welcome Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday to the pack following promotion from League One.

It all kicks off with the Owls hosting the Saints at Hillsborough on Friday, August 4 firing the gun on the race for promotion and the battle to avoid the drop.

WINNER

*Each Way: 1/4 Odds, 3 Places

Leicester are the favourites in Paddy Power’s Winner market as the 2015/16 Premier League champions attempt to put the disappointment of last season’s shock relegation to bed.

Enzo Maresca has swapped his job as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City for the manager’s job at the King Power Stadium. Conor Coady and Harry Winks are among the Foxes’ major summer signings.

Leeds are next in the betting following the appointment of Championship promotion specialist Daniel Farke.

The Whites have swooped for Ethan Ampadu and Karl Darlow but last season’s top scorer Rodrigo is among the stack of first-team regulars that have departed this summer.

Russell Martin has taken the reins at Southampton, who finished rock bottom of the Premier League last season and are third favourites in our Winner market.

The Saints have, arguably, the most settled squad of the three clubs dropping into the Championship and their chances of topping the table would be boosted if James Ward-Prowse sticks around.

TO BE PROMOTED

Unsurprisingly, the relegated trio lead the way in our To Be Promoted market with Paddy’s traders fancying Leicester, Leeds and Southampton to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Middlesbrough‘s 2022/23 campaign was transformed by the appointment of Michael Carrick as they went from the relegation battle to the play-offs. The pressure is on Boro to match last season and they can be found towards the head of our betting.

A disappointing year saw Norwich flop to a 13th-place finish and lose their yo-yo tag in the process, but the Canaries remain among the leading contenders for promotion, according to our traders.

RELEGATION

Rotherham are the favourites in Paddy Power’s Relegation market following the departures of Chiedozie Ogbene and Wes Harding.

League One champions Plymouth have spent the summer doubling down on their transfer strategy of signing young players and the Pilgrims are next in our outright betting for the drop.

QPR can also be found towards the top of the Relegation market after a concerning pre-season and summer transfer window was capped off by a 5-0 friendly defeat to Oxford United.

TOP GOALSCORER

*Each Way: 1/4 Odds, 4 Places

Leicester’s veteran striker Jamie Vardy won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2019/20 and is the favourite with Paddy Power to finish as the Championship Top Goalscorer this term.

Vardy is followed in the betting by Foxes team-mate Kelechi Iheanacho and Swansea hotshot Joel Piroe, who has scored 41 league goals in two seasons at the Liberty Stadium.

Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom was last season’s Championship Top Goalscorer with 29 goals and he is also prominent in our market despite missing pre-season through injury.
