Following Patrick Vieira’s sacking earlier this year, Roy Hodgson returned to Crystal Palace to steer them clear of relegation and to a comfortable 11th-placed finish in the Premier League.

Hodgson did a brilliant job, however, Palace are yet to decide who will be in charge for the first game of 2023/24 Premier League season.

Will the Palace bigwigs stick with Hodgson? Do they go with a young and progressive manager? Let’s have a look at some of the likely Next Crystal Palace Manager contenders…

Roy Hodgson

Roy Hodgson returned to Selhurst Park last season and he didn’t just keep Palace up, he guided them to a very healthy 11th-placed finish.

However, the former England boss is now 75 years old and how long does he want to keep managing in the top flight? It’s been claimed Hodgson fancies one more year before retiring and sailing off into the sunset… again.

Graham Potter

A former Brighton manager at their arch rivals Palace? Stranger things have happened!

Graham Potter was sacked by Chelsea earlier this year but his spell in charge at Stamford Bridge was under Todd Boehly, who’s playing a real life game of Football Manager in west London…

Potter’s stock is still high after his impressive work at Brighton. He’d be a shrewd appointment for Palace.

Graham Potter Chelsea

Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers is available after leaving Leicester by mutual consent last season. Rodgers guided the Foxes to the FA Cup and the Community Shield during his time at the club and Palace would he hoping he could replicate that at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles could face some competition for Rodgers from his old side Celtic, who look to be on the search for a new manager…

Brendan Rodgers

Paulo Fonseca

Paulo Fonseca is currently in charge of Lille and he guided them to a fifth-placed finish in Ligue 1, which will see them play European football next season.

Would the former Porto and Roma boss leave behind playing in Europe for a crack in the Premier League with Palace?

Rafa Benitez Everton

Rafa Benitez

Rafa Benitez could fancy a return to management with a fifth Premier League club. He was making flirty-eyes at West Ham for a while and he is always linked with the Hammers.

The former Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle boss has been out of work since being axed by Everton in January 2022. Is Benitez the man to get the Eagles flying?

Ralph Hasenhuttl

Could the Eagles swoop for free agent Ralph Hasenhuttl? The former Southampton boss earned plaudits for his work on the south coast, but his four-year spell at St Mary’s ended in miserable fashion before they were relegated to the Championship after his exit.

Whether a manager that has lost 9-0 twice should be on your shortlist in the Premier League is a question for another day…
