Peter Crouch: Any transfer deal for Harry Kane is not going to be easy

There's plenty of talk about Harry Kane leaving Spurs this summer, but it'll only be at the right price, says Peter Crouch

You expect this to happen at Tottenham. United look like the only real option and Daniel Levy will not make it easy.

I’ve been there with him as a player and if he doesn’t want you to get out then you don’t get out.

And if he does want you out, you’re gone – I know that from experience.

When I left Spurs they were signing Emmanuel Adebayor and I was called in and he said “We’ve accepted a bid from Stoke for you”.

I said, “I’m happy here, and I’ve got two years left on my contract.”

And he said “Well, you’re going,” and that was it.

It was difficult but we worked it out in the end.

He approaches every deal the same way too – it doesn’t matter if it’s a £100m transfer of Gareth Bale or some loan deal for young player to Forest.

He takes pride in how he handles these and any deal for Harry Kane is not going to be easy.

The question will be what do they need for him?  £50m? Can they get that with his contract running down and his age?

Or would they rather have him for another year?

I can’t imagine it being a happy camp if they don’t make big signings and they lose Harry Kane. You have to wonder where they are going.

Ange of the Lane?

My preference is still for Roberto De Zerbi to take over at Spurs, but he seems committed to Brighton.

A lot of people might wonder why he’d leave there when they are building something special.

We saw with Nuno Espirito Santo and other previous managers you can lose a lot of face there if you go at the wrong time.

De Zerbi would be the one for me based on what I’ve heard from players playing under him but Ange Postecoglou is a good shout if that’s not possible.

He’s a progressive manager, he wants to play football the right way and I think it would be a decent appointment.

But whoever they get in, they’ll need to be hungry, have some new ideas and a fresh approach.

And they’ll need to be backed too.

There’s a huge clear out needed at Spurs and a lot of new blood needed too.
