Weghorst banned from Insta for fake news after Anfield sign excuse

Is that really the best you could come up with?

Manchester United loanee Wout Weghorst has had his Instagram account suspended for spreading ‘fake news’, Paddy Power News can exclusively reveal.

United fans were calling for Weghorst’s head after he was caught on camera touching the ‘This is Anfield’ sign before their 7-0 annihilation by arch rivals Liverpool.

In a story posted on Instagram, the 30-year-old claimed he touched the iconic sign to ‘wind up’ Dutch compatriot Virgil van Dijk by stopping him from completing his usual pre-match ritual.

However, the post was swiftly removed and Weghorst’s account suspended for what the social media company described as ‘the worst excuse since Sir Alex Ferguson said his players couldn’t see each other in their grey kits at The Dell’.

‘I’ve heard some whoppers down the years’, an Instagram source told Paddy Power News.

‘But that excuse is right up there with Jurgen Klopp blaming Liverpool defeats on the English weather’.

‘Even worse than the time Joleon Lescott said he ‘accidentally’ tweeted a picture of a brand-new Mercedes instead of apologising to Villa fans after losing 6-0 to Liverpool’.

‘Yip, Big Wout is going into the social media ‘sin-bin’ along with Donald Trump, David Icke and Jordan Peterson’.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United star Eric Cantona has challenged Weghorst to a kung fu fight after the new boy touched the ‘This is Anfield’ sign.

At a press conference flanked by UFC president Dana White, the mercurial Frenchman said:

‘When the seagulls follow ze trawler, it’s because they think lanky two-faced Dutchmen will touch ze “This is Anfield” sign’.

‘I promise all Manchester United fans that I will kung fu kick Wout all ze way up the M66 back to Burnley where he belongs’.

‘I’m gonna Shaolin his ass like Liu Kang kicks Shinnok’s in Mortal Kombat 4’.

The 56-year-old concluded the press conference by quoting King Lear then slapping Dana White in a sleeper hold.

*Paddy Power’s breaking news coverage is 110% nonsense and that’s the truth. Honest.
