Everton are on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Frank Lampard earlier this week with the club only heading in one direction.
The ex-Chelsea man has had a nightmare start to 2023, with back-to-back defeats to fellow bottom-six sides Southampton and West Ham coming off the back of a humiliating 4-1 thrashing on home soil to Brighton and an FA Cup exit against Manchester United.

Next up is Premier League leaders Arsenal, followed by a Merseyside derby at Anfield, and both games will be overseen by a different person in the dugout. Well, if they get their arse in gear, at least.
So let’s have a look at some of the likely Next Everton Manager contenders to take over at Goodison Park and try and keep the ground old club in the top flight.
Sean Dyche
The former Watford and Burnley chief will be a name popular with Everton supporters. After keeping The Clarets in the Premier League after so many close brushes with relegation he’s bound to be in the reckoning. The Toffees are obviously in a whole pile of trouble and while football might be a tough watch under him, he very much knows how to get the best out of his players and keep them afloat.
Marcelo Bielsa
We know Dyche’s style of play would suit a relegation dogfight but how about Marcelo Bielsa’s murderball? It confused teams at first and Leeds had success under the Argentine but ultimately it didn’t work out at Elland Road.
Either way, the Toffees would be entertaining under Bielsa, whether it’s in the Premier League or the Championship would be the question…
David Moyes
With Moyes’ job at West Ham very much under the spotlight, the former Everton and Manchester United boss might fancy a move back north. He knows the club inside out and would certainly bring some much-needed defensive soundness to the backline.
The question is though, would Everton fans welcome him back?
Wayne Rooney
This one is the obvious pick for Everton fans. Of course, Rooney is an Everton and Manchester United legend, playing a total of 98 games for the Toffees over two separate spells, scoring 25 goals, scoring an incredible 183 for Man United over 393 appearances.
He’s had two managerial stints so far, keeping Derby County in the Championship on the final day of the 2020-21 season thanks to a 3-3 home draw against Sheffield Wednesday but the following season, largely thanks to a points deduction of 21 points they were relegated to League One.
Following this he took over at DC United in the MLS but the results haven’t been stellar.
Nuno Espirito Santo
Nuno Espirito Santo is currently in charge of Saudi Professional League club Al-Ittihad after his spell at Tottenham didn’t go to plan.
He’s a defensive manager and we know this Everton team needs to shut up shop but would the Goodison Park faithful be happy with Nuno?
Duncan Ferguson
Big Dunc’s been caretaker manager two times over recent years at Everton but it’s only been for a total of five games; the results were one win, one draw and one loss. Looking towards Everton’s next four matches the vast majority of supporters would take that as things stand. A fan favourite in the blue half of Liverpool, maybe now’s the time for the big man to step up.
Ange Postecoglou
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou’s name is also in the mix and many of us would love to see the Aussie bringing his brand of attacking football into the Premier League. He’s not had much experience towards the wrong end of football leagues however, managing Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory in Australia before getting the national team job.
He had a 47% win rate while manager of those three sides though and has been a huge hit at Celtic. Would he be a good fit for a side low on confidence and leaking goals?
