Next Chelsea manager odds: Betting suspended on Potter becoming Tuchel replacement

Who's next in the Stamford Bridge hotseat?

Thomas Tuchel has been sacked as Chelsea manager after a nightmare start to the season.

After an opening day win at Everton and promising 2-2 draw at home to London rivals Tottenham, the Blues were hammered 3-0 at Leeds in a dismal display at Elland Road.

Leicester and West Ham were then dispatched in 2-1 victories at Stamford Bridge either side of a 2-1 loss at Southampton in an inconsistent run.

And last night’s shock 1-0 defeat in the Champions League at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb proved to be the final straw for the club’s new owners, who are now looking to making their first managerial appointment since taking over from Roman Abramovich.

We’ll keep you updated with the latest odds on who could replace the German throughout the day right here.

11.30am: Who next for Brighton?

With Potter looking set to be announced as Chelsea’s latest boss today, our trading team have taken a look at who could be the next Brighton manager.

10am: Betting suspended

Betting is currently suspended on the Chelsea manager market with Graham Potter now looking set to be confirmed as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement in the next 24 hours.

5.30pm Wednesday: Potter looks set for Chelsea

We’ll leave you for the day with the news Brighton chief Graham Potter looks set to take the top job at Stamford Bridge. He’s the huge odds-on favourite, with Mauricio Pochettino second in the betting and Zinedine Zidane third.

3pm: Champions League? Nah, it’s all about the Europa

Thomas Tuchel was relieved of his duties by Blues owner Todd Boehly despite a 1-0 loss to the Croatian side which has them firmly on course for a third-place finish in Group E…

2pm: Give it Big Sam ’till end of the season

Stranger things have happened, right? If Chelsea need someone to steady the ship, who better than the best downer of a pint of wine the Premier League has seen?

1.20pm: A reunion is on the cards…

1pm: Poch second in the betting

With Potter the huge favourite for the Stamford Bridge gig, it’s former Southampton, Spurs and PSG man Mauricio Pochettino who is second in Paddy’s odds.

At the time of writing he’s odds-against for the job, some way adrift of Potter in the prices.

12.45pm: Potter odds-on for Chelsea job

Brighton boss Graham Potter is now the leading contender for Chelsea job, edging clear of Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane in the running.

At the time of writing he’s odds-on to be appointed as Thomas Tuchel’s successor.

12.25pm: How about the Italian job for Chelsea?

Chelsea have a history of appointing Italian managers, with the likes of Gianluca Vialli, Claudio Ranieri and Antonio Conte all taking the top job.

Tempting Conte back from Spurs could prove tricky, but title-wining ex-Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini could be more open to taking the job, particuarly with no World Cup to look forward to…

12pm: Manager. Leader. Legend?

Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane are the early frontrunners for the job, according to our traders.

But how about an emotional return for club hero John Terry. Out of work since leaving Aston Villa, could JT be set to steady the ship?

11.45am: Bad luck, Auba…

11.30am: Could Chelsea raid their rivals?

Brentford have been a big hit since Thomas Frank steered them to promotion out of the Championship, but could their West London rivals decide to poach their coach? The Bees thrashed Leeds 5-2 on the weekend and have never looked in danger of relegation since reaching the top tier.

11.20am: Will the Blues look to Bobby?

We’ve already mentioned Gareth Southgate’s chances, but what about Roberto Martinez? He’s got Premier League experience from spells at Wigan and Everton, and has since handled some of the best players in the world as head coach at Belgium.

You’d have to think any move pre-World Cup is unlikely. But afterwards…?

11.10am: Simeone & Allegri look long-shots

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone and Juventus manager Massimilliano Allegri have been linked with the Chelsea job over the years after impressive stints in charge of their current clubs.

Our traders don’t rate them among the top options this time around, though, with both at fairly long odds to make the switch to West London.

11am: A reminder of the leading contenders

Brighton manager Graham Potter and former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino are the early lead runners for the Chelsea manager’s job after Thomas Tuchel was given his marching orders around 10am this morning.

10.50am: Southgate not the one?

One man who looks unlikely to get the gig is England chief Gareth Southgate. His stock has fallen among some Three Lions fans after a poor Nations League campaign, but surely he’s going nowhere before the World Cup kicks off in just a couple of months.

If the club’s owners wanted an interim until after the tournament, though, that could be a different proposition…

10.40am: Jolly Rodgers?

His side might be bottom of the table and still smarting from a 5-2 hammering at Brighton on Sunday, but could Brendan Rodgers be the answer for Chelsea? He’s worked at the club before as a coach during the Jose Mourinho Part I days, and would surely jump at the chance.

The former Liverpool and Celtic coach has plenty of experience at handling players at big clubs, so could slot in right away…

10.30am: Zidane a contender?

Three-time Champions League winning coach Zinedine Zidane is without a club since ending his second spell with Real Madrid. Could he be tempted by the chance to work in the Premier League, or does he have half an eye on the France job after the World Cup if former Juventus and Les Blues team-mate Didier Deschamps calls it a day?

10.15am: Poch and Potter top the market

Could Brighton manager Graham Potter be set for a top job? The Seagulls have made a super start to the season, and they’ve already done plenty of business with the Stamford Bridge side this summer, landing £60m-plus for Marc Cucurella and getting Levi Colwill in return on loan. They also signed midfielder Billy Gilmour.

They’d have to fork out with Potter under a long contract on the South Coast, and if they want to save some pennies, Mauricio Pochettino could be an option after being binned by Paris St-Germain in the summer. A head coach swapping PSG for Chelsea after being ditched by the French club? Surely that’ll never catch on…

10.10am: Who could be next?

Our traders have got the abacus out and worked out who are the favourites, and who hasn’t got a hope. Here’s the top five in the running at the time of writing…

10am: Chelsea have SACKED Thomas Tuchel

Despite winning the Champions League and getting Chelsea to two finals last year, Tuchel has been given the chop.

Harsh? A bit. A surprise? Not really. It’s nice to see Chelsea’s new owners honouring the club’s tradition of binning off their managers in a heartbeat.
