Roma’s greatest ever player Francesco Totti had a portrait of Chris Smalling tattooed on his leg following the Englishman’s man-of-the-match performance during I Giallorossi’s Europa Conference League triumph last night.
The 45-year-old shared an image of the fresh ink with his 420k Twitter followers along with the caption, ‘Long live the 9th King of Rome. Yours sincerely, the 8th King of Rome’.
Totti had the ink done after the 32-year-old’s imperious defensive display helped secure Roma a first-ever major European honour by beating Feyenoord in the Conference League’s inaugural final.
Smalling made a couple of crucial blocks in the second half as the Italian side held on for a 1-0 victory in Tirana.
‘It’s still a bit red but there’s a great likeness of Chris. The tattooist did a wonderful job’, said Totti, while showing off his new leg tat to Paddy Power News reporters.
‘I am not ashamed to admit it. While I was making love to my wife last night, I was secretly thinking about those two blocks Chris made’.
‘I rang Roma president Dan Friedkin this morning and told him to give Chris whatever salary he wants, name a stand after him – give him my No10 shirt already’.
Meanwhile, the former Manchester United defender was spotted leaving the British Embassy in Rome this morning where he changed his name by deed poll to Cristoforo Smalldini.
‘I joost-a fancied a change’, Smalldini gesticulated, with his fingers and thumb held together in a vertical orientation.
