Solskjaer: Man United players up for Wankdorf challenge

Tonight's Champions League game is all in hand

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says his players can handle whatever is put in front of them as they kick-off their Champions League campaign in Switzerland tonight.

The Red Devils travel to Bern to face Young Boys in their opening game in Group F and Solskjaer says he’s delighted with the players he has at his disposal.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

‘I’ve got more options than you could shake a fist at’, the Norwegian told Paddy Power News.

‘We’ve got some big players who will know how to get to grips with the occasion’.

‘Most of the lads have experienced Wankdorf before (United beat Young Boys 3-0 and 1-0 under Jose Mourinho in the 2018/19 UCL campaign)’.

‘We’ll all be pulling in the same direction and hopefully we can come away with a smile on our faces at the end of the night’.

One man who’ll be hoping to start the game is the rejuvenated Jesse Lingard who left the comfort of the Donny van den Beek Suite at Old Trafford on Saturday to score United’s fourth goal against Newcastle.

The 28-year-old isn’t fazed by the task at hand and hopes to get some much needed playing time under his belt.

‘I haven’t been near Wankdorf in almost 3 years’, Lingard told Paddy Power News.

‘The lads love coming here’.

‘If the manager needs me to come on and spray a few balls about the pitch, I’m happy to help out my teammates’.

When asked if he felt Young Boys had an advantage because they’re used to playing on a 4G pitch, Lingard replied:

‘4G? Haven’t they got any Wi-Fi in Switzerland? Ah man, I’m out of data. How am I gonna post my Insta story now?

United’s televised game will get underway at 5.45pm this evening resulting in several fans feigning illness at work to be home in time for kick-off.

39-year-old factory worker Angus Hucknall has spent the last two hours pretending to sneeze much to the terror of his colleagues.

‘We all know he’s a lying b*llocks because United have an early kick-off tonight but you never can be too careful these days can you?’, said a shop steward while escorting Angus off the premises with the aid of a cattle prod.
