Cristiano Ronaldo should ‘show loyalty’ to Manchester United by snubbing a move to arch-enemies City, that’s according to Reds legend Robin van Persie.
Former United star Ronaldo has incurred the wrath of the Old Trafford unfaithful by verbally agreeing to join their cross-city rivals.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
They’ve accused the Portuguese superstar of showing zero loyalty to the club which has so far spurned the opportunity to resign him.
United fans flooded social media to warn the 36-year-old he would no longer be regarded as a club legend on a par with the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Denis Law or Andy Cole.
Now former United hero Robin van Persie has weighed into the debate and advised Ronaldo to show some loyalty to his former employers.
A very reliable tabloid source close to the Dutch star, told Paddy Power News:
‘Robin is United through and through and watching this debacle unfold is very painful for him’.
‘The supporters have always held former United players in such high regard. There’s an affection and affinity there which remains long after they’ve left the club. Just ask Paul Ince’.
‘Waiting 12-years before joining your former club’s cross-city rivals as a 36-year-old is just bad form as far as Robin’s concerned. The only thing worse than that would be running down your contract and jumping ship in your prime’.
Meanwhile, United fan Mani Hucknall took aim at former idol Ronaldo in a long-winded Twitter rant.
The 39-year-old stay-at-home-son tweeted:
‘You’re nothing but a tap-in merchant PEN-ALDO’.
‘You’re no better than the likes of Alan Smith and Michael Owen. A traitor’.
‘All you care about is money. We don’t need you anyways coz we’ve got players who play for the shirt like Pogba’.
In related news, shirt sales at Manchester United have sky-rocketed as fans rush to buy jerseys emblazoned with ‘Ronaldo 7’ just so they can burn them and post videos of it on Twitter.
