Football’s coming home… to Ireland! Paddy donates €129K to grassroots footy

Paddy's bumped up his donation to celebrate Sterling's contribution...

Paddy’s signed the giant cheque and we’re delighted to reveal that the grand total being donated to grassroots Irish football clubs around the country off the back of England’s performance in Euro 2020 comes to just under €129,000!

We pledged to contribute €10,000 every time England scored a goal in the tournament as part of the #saveourgame campaign. And Luke Shaw’s early lightning bolt against eventual winners Italy in the final helped net one final cash injection for Irish football.

After England’s shock defeat on Sunday, we’ve decided to pay the full amount in pounds sterling, which converts to total of €128,650. Given England, and Raheem Sterling in particular, are responsible for this this eye-watering windfall, we felt it was only right to cough up in their currency.

So, with the Three Lions netting 11 goals throughout the tournament, Garth Southgate and his squad managed to do one more a good deed for football, even in defeat. I’m sure he’ll be in touch to thank us when things die down…

Harry Kane & Co weren’t the only people licking their wounds this morning either, as the Italy’s Euro 2020 win cost Paddy a cool €6million.

Mamma Mia!

While England opened the competition as favourites, the real money was on Roberto Mancini – who bears a remarkable likeness to Irish showband legend Dickie Rock – to go all the way with his squad.

Frankly, we needed England to win, and while a draw result at full-time took the edge off things for bookies, Italy winning on penalties cost us another half-million.

At least 500 punters woke up this morning grinning from ear to ear in spite of the result, after they had an inspired punt on defender Luke Shaw in the First Goal Scorer market for England at odds of 50/1 with the marauding left back managing to find the back of the net within the first two minutes of the game.
