Exclusive: New Cavani contract BANS ’99 treble stories from Solskjaer

Agent has done an amazing job there

Following news that Edison Cavani has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United, it is understood that an important clause has been included within the contract to ensure the Uruguayan striker remains happy.

Having put pen to paper less than 48 hours ago, Paddy Power News can reveal Cavani was “adamant” that in order for him to stay at Old Trafford, United boss Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer is permanently banned from talking about the 1998/99 treble winning season in any capacity.

New to Paddy Power?

“He doesn’t shut up about it,” Cavani told us. “He’s a really nice fella and the boys love him, but how many stories about Henning Berg and Ronny Johnsen do we need to listen to?

“It’s easily 20 times a day he mentions ‘that’ season. If it’s not reminding us about his last-minute winner against Bayern Munich or scoring four goals in 15 minutes away at Forest, it’s just rattling on about the general camaraderie of the squad. Everybody knows Roy Keane was a miserable pr*ck and Dwight Yorke spent more time in bed with women than he did in the box. Does my f*ckin head in.

“Now that I’ve committed to the club and have this excellent clause in place, I guess it’s a good time to admit that I do speak very good English, which will be a benefit to the players around me.

“I was always worried that if Ole knew I could understand him, he would corner me after training, and it would be Teddy this and Becks that – so I pretended I didn’t understand a word.”

Elsewhere at Old Trafford there is concern that club captain, Harry Maguire, who picked up a knock against Aston Villa at the weekend, might not be fit in time for the Europa League final at the end of May.

With the United medical staff unable to properly treat the ankle injury, a spokesperson from the club has advised a local articulated lorry repair man will be brought in to assess the damage.
