United Transfers: Woodward plots last-minute 5 quid Sancho deadline day bid

Worth a shot

Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward is lining up an audacious last-minute bid to bring long-term target Jadon Sancho to the club.

The 49-year-old executive vice-chairman will present Borussia Dortmund with a ‘take it, or leave it’ offer of five British Pounds Sterling for the winger, precisely one minute before the transfer window closes.

Woodward is hoping one final derisory and insulting bid for the England star will put to bed the longest-running saga since Star Wars.

‘5 quid but in 10 instalments’, Woodward revealed to Paddy Power News.

‘Given the current financial climate, I think Hans-Joachim Watzke will find it a reasonable offer’.

‘I expect Dortmund will accept the bid immediately, giving us 50 seconds or so to thrash out personal terms with Jadon and his representatives’.

When asked whether United had a contingency plan in place should Dortmund reject the bid, Woodward grinned:

‘In the highly unlikely event Dortmund turn down the fiver, then we’ll just have to bring Ronaldo home instead’.

Addressing the speculation surrounding his future, Sancho wrote on Twitter:

‘If Mr Woodward persists with this behaviour, I will have no option but to file a restraining order’.

However, one player who won’t be joining United according to Woodward is Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen.

‘We offered him a comfy seat beside Donny van de Beek but he said he wants to stay and fight his place on the Inter bench instead’.

Meanwhile, Reds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Phil Jones has turned off his phone and is hiding somewhere in United’s Carrington training complex.

‘Jonesy does this twice a year now’, explained the Norwegian.

‘Mike Phelan and Fletch have been searching for him all morning in the ventilation shafts with torches’.

‘He’ll come out in his own time once he knows the transfer window’s closed’.
