Liverpool are out to make it win No.2 in this season’s Champions League when they host Danish side Midtjylland on Tuesday.
We’ve got a tidy 6/1 Same Game Multi bet lined up for the game, and with Paddy’s acca insurance that means if one of our four legs doesn’t land, you can get your stake back (up to £/€10) as a free bet.
Here’s what we fancy for the Anfield clash…
Liverpool (-2)
There is really no excuse for Liverpool not winning this game at a canter, even without Virgil Van Dijk at the back. They have just won arguably the toughest fixture in the group and are now in pole position to reach the round of 16, so they simply must keep the momentum going against likely whipping boys Midtjylland.
The Danish side looked out of their depth in their 4-0 home defeat to Atalanta and the going doesn’t get much easier with a trip to Anfield. This is very much a case of how many for Jurgen Klopp’s men ahead of two pivotal games with Atalanta.
Diogo Jota to score anytime
The signing of a player who had somewhat fallen out of favour at Wolves raised a few eyebrows at the time, but it has turned out to be something of a masterstroke. Jota has been excellent since making the move to Liverpool, looking sharp whenever he has been involved and rescuing a win in Liverpool’s most recent league game against Sheffield United.
He could have had a hat-trick when he made his debut off the bench against Arsenal and he added a new dimension to Liverpool’s attack in Amsterdam last week. He will undoubtedly see some game time on Tuesday night and should have plenty of opportunities if Liverpool do carve their Danish opponents open.
Both teams to score? No
Liverpool’s defensive record has been dismal by their high standards this season, but they look a lot less vulnerable now that Alisson is back between the sticks. Then there is the fact that they looked at their most vulnerable heading into last week’s clash with Ajax due to the absence of Alisson and Van Dijk and still managed to keep a clean sheet.
This week, playing with a far more accomplished goalkeeper against a far weaker opposition, they should have absolutely no problems keeping a clean sheet. Midtjylland, meanwhile, looked short of ideas in their 4-0 defeat in the opening round of fixtures and their chances of scoring at Anfield, one of the toughest places to go to in Europe, are slim at best.
It would be a significant surprise if the Danes managed to breach Liverpool’s rearguard on Tuesday.
Over 1.5 Liverpool goals in the first half
Regardless of their performance, Liverpool have made a habit out of scoring in the first half this season. They have found the back of the net in the first half of five of their six league games this year, only failing to score against Chelsea in a tense opening period at Stamford Bridge.
Tuesday night’s game will have no such tension, especially if Midtjylland’s first-half performance against Atalanta is anything to go by. The Danish club were carved open in the opening 45 minutes last week and trailed 3-0 going in at the break. They could be in serious trouble if they offer Liverpool similar space and opportunities.
