My Dad got plenty of stick when he said a few weeks ago on Sky Sports that Tottenham are going to win the league! I’m not sure what that did to the odds, but I did do a quick check of his temperature after to make sure he’s alright! The good news is he was fine.
I know where he’s coming from in terms of they’ve got good players, but can they gel? Can they get it together long term? We also have to remember, yes they might have battered Man United and Southampton, but they lost against Everton, drew against Newcastle, it’s not perfect.
What could be perfect though is that front three of Harry Kane, Gareth Bale and Son Heung-Min. If those three can hit it off, then that’s the best forward line in the country.
We all think about Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane at Liverpool but all three of those for Spurs have goals in them. They could be amazing. I genuinely can’t wait to see how those three forwards gel.
It has the potential to be unreal.
There’s a really simple reason why I believe Bale will work at Tottenham: he’s not an idiot. I don’t think he’s the type of guy that would put himself on offer unless he thought it would work. He could have gone anywhere, to America, to China, to Man United, wherever he wanted, but he chose Tottenham because he knows he has something left in the tank.
It’s great news for the fans, too, and if he can even get a little bit of the form he had before he went to Real Madrid then, honestly, anything is possible. Because he is such an amazing talent, there’s nothing he can’t do.
As for the manager, well we all know Jose Mourinho is marmite. He could be the man to drive them on to something, but he could also be divisive if things go wrong.
That being said, he knows how to get a team winning, and he knows how to give teams that mentality. Like we saw in his documentary, he wants his players to be nasty pieces of work, and that’s something we’ve never really associated with Tottenham over the years. They’re going to be a very, very exciting team if all of those things come together.
