Jamie Redknapp: Everton have an inferiority complex – I expect Liverpool to beat them

The Reds will love chewing up the 100 per cent record of The Toffees.

I have been really impressed with Everton and have actually really enjoyed watching them so far this season. They’ve had a brilliant start and I love what Carlo Ancelotti has done.

He knew he had to get midfield players in, and that’s what he’s done. Allan is a really good signing, and James Rodriguez gives them that stardust. That being said, their goalkeeper Jordan Pickford can be erratic and make some bad decisions, and you just worry a little bit about them defensively in terms of the numbers they’ve got.

There is also definitely an inferiority complex with Everton when it comes to Liverpool because their rivals are a better side. This game is coming at a great time and Everton have made a massive jump to get close to Liverpool, but I really don’t see The Reds losing.

A draw isn’t a disaster either

There are certain games when you’re playing that you look at and don’t want to lose. When I was playing at Liverpool, Manchester United was obviously one of these.

With Everton, a derby game, you’d want to beat them at home and get our three points of course, but if you get a point at Goodison and ultimately take four points off them, then that’s a good return.

After the Aston Villa result, Liverpool are not going to be full of confidence realistically.

They’ll be apprehensive, even a little nervous. They have been shipping goals, and are still yet to find that balance at the back. Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be licking his lips thinking – I’ve got a chance against this back four.
