Exclusive: Dele Alli ‘keen to fight for place’ on PSG bench

He's lost his way at Spurs and is seeking a new challenge - like getting named in the PSG squad

Having been left out of their Carabao Cup tie squad for tonight’s game against Chelsea, rumours continue to swirl around the fate of Tottenham midfielder-forward-whatever Dele Alli.

And amid interest from the French petrol-funded powerhouse of PSG, the player said to be “keen” to battle Julian Draxler and Idrissa Gueye for a seat on the bench in Paris.

“It’s always been a dream of Dele’s to play for a big club – but in the absence of any takers, Ligue 1’s flat-track bullies will do,” said one source close to the Spurs man.

“He’s been linked with United previously, but Jesse Lingard has the  English attacking midfielder no one knows what to do with spot locked down there.”

“Arsenal would struggle to justify taking him on with Mesut Ozil commanding the expensive ornament role like a boss at the Emirates still.”

Instead, the England international believes he can press for a regular spot among the substitutes for the Parisian side’s 2020/21 campaign.

“Dele’s seen it happen – Herrera, Gueye, Chuopo-Moting for f**k sake – all of these guys have left the Premier League, or even the Championship, and got their chance on the PSG bench while Mbappe and Neymar do their Harlem Globetrotters thing against Angers or Troyes.”

“Dele’s exactly the kind of player they need; not good enough for the first team, but there to throw on when you’re desperate.”

And Paris is said to have plenty of appealing aspects for the 24-year-old, according to those close to him.

“One of the biggest selling points is their manager – Dele cannot wait to work whoever is the PSG boss.”

“He believes if you’ve got an opportunity to play under someone like him – whoever he is – you’ve got to take it.”

And it’s not just football reasons that have caught Alli’s attention.

“Dele should have plenty of time to take in life in Paris when he’s not sitting on his arse in the Parc des Prince.”

“He’s already been looking through the tourist brochures. The Louvre, Notre Dame, boat trips down the Seine. He’s even reached out to the ticket office for Eiffel Tower tickets already.”

“And Neymar and his da are said to have offered to show him the Paris nightlife, as well as all they know about diddling the taxman.”

“So it looks like a great opportunity for a young, talented player approaching his peak to miss loads of match time sitting around behind better players.”
