There’s really nothing like placing a small stake on big odds football accumulator for Saturday’s football and then watching the results land in your favour.
One Paddy Power customer had that special feeling last weekend as he absolutely took us to the cleaners. The punter from Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, England placed just £3 on a nine-fold acca and beat whopping odds of 1,371/1 to take home a grand total of £4,116.
Like all big acca wins, our winner needed a bit of luck along the way, but at the end of the day our odds makers were given one hell of a spanking as our victor picked games from the Premier League, Championship and an Italian club friendly to land the loot.
First up for our crafty customer was the opening game of the Premier League season, as he backed the seemingly safe bet of Arsenal to take down newly-promoted Fulham in the early kick-off on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta’s men duly did the business as goals from Alexander Lacazette, new-boy Gabriel and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped the Gunners to an easy victory at Craven Cottage and got our beautiful bet off to the perfect start.
At the same time as Arsenal were winning at Fulham, our winner made the brave call of picking Birmingham City to beat last season’s Championship Play-Off finalists Brentford at St Andrew’s. Jeremie Bela popped up in the 37th minute with a smart header to make it two-from-two in the early match-ups.
Next on the betslip was a slew of afternoon games in the Premier League and Championship. Crystal Palace bettered Southampton with ease thanks to a first-half Wilfried Zaha goal and that was added to by an easy 2-0 home victory for QPR over Nottingham Forest to get four legs in the book for our winner.
But, some late drama in the Championship needed to keep the ball rolling on this wonderful wager.
At the John Smith’s Stadium freshly relegated Norwich needed an 81st-minute winner from new Irish international Adam Idah to see off home side Huddersfield 1-0. The goal was Idah’s first-ever league strike for the Canaries.
After that, our victor will have been delighted to hear of Arnaut Danjuma’s 84th-minute bullet for Bournemouth that sealed a 3-2 success at home against a brave Blackburn Rovers outfit. That was followed by the curious choice of backing AC Milan to beat Serie B outfit Brescia in a friendly, which they duly did 3-1.
Now came the real excitement as we are sure our customer thought it was safe to back last season’s Premier League champions Liverpool against promoted Leeds in the 5.30pm kick-off.
Things looked rosy in the garden as Mohamed Salah banged in a fourth-minute penalty to give The Reds an early lead, but Leeds refused to quit and levelled the game on THREE separate occasions to leave our winner sweating with three minutes left on the watch.
Luckily, a daft challenge from Leeds United’s new £27m striker Rodrigo handed the home side a second penalty on the night and Salah made no mistake to complete his hat-trick, sealing a 4-3 triumph for Liverpool much to the relief of Jurgen Klopp and our winner.
Finally, the ninth leg of the acca required Newcastle to snatch three points from West Ham at the London Stadium.
Thankfully for our victor’s nerves, the Hammers didn’t offer too much resistance (thanks Moyesy) and a pair of second-half strikes from new signings Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick brought home the bacon for our customer.
With that over £4,000 landed in our winners account and all we can say is welcome to the Punting Hall of Fame!
Late Liverpool penalty helps punter score over £4k from just £3 stake in nine-fold acca
This one stung, we won’t lie.
