Well, here we are the Champions League semi-final everyone has always dreamt of – RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain.
It seems quite apt that this tie takes place in a neutral venue as neither set of would-be home fans could really provide both the angst and excitement owed to a game of this size, however we need to view this as a very different year in the competition, and as such, see this as an opportunity.
For all the issues people have with both of these clubs due to their ownership, it’s still occasionally worth realising that regardless the crest, we get to watch some of the best footballers on the planet trying to win medals.
PSG to Win
Unfortunately, this is unavoidable due to the reasons I’ll further lay out hereafter, but the firepower is too much.
The primary reason I’ll hand this game to PSG is because of the pace of their backline. What I mean by that is, when teams get nabbed of possession, it’s often a case of being outran and a four-v-three developing in behind.
That doesn’t really pose as a major problem for a side that boast Juan Bernat, Thiago Silva and Presnel Kimpebe in their back four.
It leaves me thinking that Leipzig are likely going to have to produce from a set piece or general play in order to breach the PSG rear-guard and I just don’t see it happening.
PSG to have Six or More Shots on Target
As Leipzig prepare to sit in and hand PSG possession, it becomes a value play to say PSG will have as many shots as humanly possible because they’ve a number of players who are selfish.
This doesn’t always aid you in terms of progressing in Europe – and nobody needs reminding of their shortcomings there – but five of PSG’s front six will strike from distance at any given moment.
There probably isn’t a single team in world football who unleash more often.
Given how the game will set up – with Leipzig camped 25 yards from their goal – we’ll eagerly await a wide player to take a touch inside and fire a dribbler into the safe arms of Peter Gulacsi.
RB Leipzig to have a Red Card
Leipzig committed 21 fouls against Atletico Madrid when they had 58% of the ball. That’s unheard of!
Each of their back four, along with Kevin Kampl, love a sly foul and those add up – particularly against players with quicker feet who will frustrate you.
PSG possess the world’s largest cohort of s**t-stirrers and this looks to be a match made in heaven for card-backers.
