Wednesday night sees a clash between two sides who desperately need a win. Both Livingston and Motherwell find themselves pointless after two games, a situation neither side would have envisaged two weeks ago.
Motherwell are still without a goal having lost at home to newly-promoted Dundee United and a Ross County side that could be looking nervously over their shoulder come the end of the season.
Livingston, on the other hand, were put to the swords by early pace setters Hibs on Saturday after losing narrowly to St. Mirren on the opening day.
Neither side has really inspired confidence that they will pick up three points on Wednesday, but at least one of them will be leaving Fir Park with points on the board.
Motherwellwill hope that they can make home advantage count and begin their ascent up the Premiership table.
Rangers couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the season. First, they took three points from a difficult trip to Aberdeen and then won easily against St. Mirren at Ibrox courtesy of Alfredo Morelos’s timely return to form.
Rangers’ talisman looked like his head had been turned by European interest and seemed to be lacking a spark in the opening days of the season, most notably in Ranger’s Europa League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
However, he looked sharp against St. Mirren on Sunday to help complete a perfect opening two games for Steven Gerrard’s men. Throw in Celtic’s early slip up at Kilmarnock and Rangers are in dreamland.
Kilmarnock will take a lot of inspiration from their 1-1 draw with champions Celtic at the weekend where they more than held their own.
An awful 30 minutes at Hibs aside, Kilmarnock have looked solid so far this season and will hope to pick up their first three points of the season on Wednesday evening.
It won’t be easy. Ross County have enjoyed a terrific start to the season, beating Motherwell on the opening day and bagging an important three points at Hamilton a week later to find themselves in the lofty position of third.
They have done so without the loss of a goal but still look limited up front. Kilmarnock will hope to end their good start and pick up their first three points of the season in the process.
