John Terry has been unveiled as the new skipper of a yacht he’s renting while on holiday in Portugal.
The 39-year-old was pictured in a full Chelsea kit as he sat at the helm of the boat while unnecessarily fidgeting with his captain’s armband.
Terry assumed the captaincy upon boarding the vessel despite informing its crew he had zero nautical experience.
The ex-Chelsea defender set off on his maiden voyage wearing his former club’s full home kit, his Nike Magista soccer cleats and a sailor cap.
Shortly before setting sail, Terry had the ship’s crew line up alongside him while the Champions League theme blared over the vessel’s PA system.
Demanding to be referred to as ‘Skip’, ‘the Guv’nor’ or Mr Chelsea, Terry then took his terrified crew out to sea.
However, it wasn’t long before the Aston Villa assistant boss ran into trouble.
‘John, I mean, Mr Chelsea, was spinning the ship’s wheel around in circles like a child on a supermarket amusement ride’, said one crew member who asked not to be named.
‘Within minutes we’d ran aground on the beach, narrowly avoiding some nudist sunbathers’.
‘Mr Chelsea spent the whole time looking through his telescope and shouting land ahoy’.
The ship’s crew and Terry were rescued by the coastguard and taken back to a nearby hotel where a crowd of onlookers had gathered.
‘As we approached the hotel, people started applauding the coastguard who saved us from the stranded yacht’.
‘But Mr Chelsea thought they were applauding him. He took the coastguard’s megaphone and gave a speech, asking them not to think of him as a hero, just a captain saving his crew’.
Meanwhile, it’s understood the former England skipper has been linked with the vacant manager’s position at Bournemouth following the departure of Eddie Howe.
And Terry added to the speculation this morning when he followed all the Bournemouth AFC WAGs on Instagram.
