Football tips: Our 10/1 Premier League double for the Monday’s 6pm ties

Monday evening’s not so exciting 6pm double header takes us to the AMEX stadium and Bramall Lane respectively, as Brighton host Newcastle and Sheffield United welcome Everton.

With not a lot riding on these games, bar Sheffield United’s slim hopes of sneaking into Europe (which I personally think could be to their detriment), it’s tricky enough to find a couple of decent bets but we will give it a go.

That said, Sheffield United fans would certainly love to see their side have a crack at Europe and defy their odds at the time of writing this to finish in the top 6.

As far as Everton and Newcastle are concerned, their respective reflections on this season will be very much contrasting.

Newcastle fans will be very pleased with their season as a whole, having already amassed 43 points and guaranteed another season in the top flight, with potential investment on the way it’s an exciting time to be a Toon fan (relatively speaking).

Everton fans, however, will be bitterly disappointed with their season, as they would have had eyes on a top 6 finish at the start of the season. But, their performance and result against Wolves recently illustrated just how far off they are despite having what is on paper a decent squad.

With Newcastle and Everton having nothing to play for, the home double would ordinarily appeal.

However, I’m going to stick my neck out somewhat (while somehow still sitting on the fence) and suggest backing the draw double here.

Given recent form, I can’t bring myself to put my faith in any of these four teams to guarantee us a win, and that for me is reason enough to combo up the draws at what will be a very tasty-looking 10/1.

I also believe there will be goals – so if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous and fancy backing the score draw double, you can get on that at an even more juicy looking 19/1.

There isn’t a lot else to write home about in these games to be quite frank. I wouldn’t read too much into recent form when it comes to match that don’t have a whole lot of importance.

But, I would stress that historically these kinds of games tend to be open, carefree affairs and when there isn’t a whole lot of difference between the quality of the teams on show (as is very much the case here) you’ll find teams settling for points more often than they ordinarily would if it had a significant impact on their season.

I’ve probably upset a lot of Sheffield United fans with these comments, but trust me, you don’t want to be playing European football next season with that squad!
