21:15: Stephen Bunting v Luke Littler
It’s semi-final action at the World Championships on Thursday night and both Luke Littler and Stephen Bunting came through their quarter final games with 5-2 wins.
Stephen Bunting threw a mid-90’s average in his win over Peter Wright and had some big finishes in there as well. You could see just how much it meant to him at the end. He won the Masters title last year and is a former BDO World Champion but that was 11 years ago. It means a lot to him to make it to the last four of the biggest Championship in Darts. He’s on the cusp of getting into the Premier League for the first time as well.
You could argue that Luke Littler was even more impressive against Nathan Aspinall. He posted some huge scoring with a 101.5 average. He started really well and that will be key in tonight’s semi-final. His first set average was 111 and maybe that early high scoring has been lacking in his matches to date.
He also looks more relaxed compared to the earlier rounds and it feels like he’s enjoying himself more on stage. He gave Aspinall few opportunities to get a grip of the game and whatever chances Bunting gets tonight he’s going to have to grab them with both hands.
It’s a second consecutive semi-final at the Ally Pally for Littler and it should be a second consecutive Final appearance too.
