We’re very much at the stage of the 2023 PDC World Darts Championships where the cream starts to rise to the top after a number of very one sided last 16 matches at the Ally Pally. Our New Year’s Day action sees two of the big favourites looking to book their places in the semi finals, Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
They take on Chris Dobey and Gabriel Clemens respectively and neither should have too much trouble in taking big steps towards potentially facing each other in the final. MvG and Gezzy look in lethal form so let’s see if we can eke out a little value for their quarter final clashes on Sunday evening.
7.45pm: Gerwyn Price v Gabriel Clemens – Price Most 180s, High Checkout & Win Match
Price and Clemens head here on the back of resounding 4-1 wins in the last round. The Iceman swept aside Jose de Sousa on Thursday and Clemens took care of Alan Soutar on Friday. While Clemens was impressive in defeating Soots this is a serious step up in class with the No.1 roaring into view on Sunday evening.
Price has grown into the competition and looks imperious now. He’ll will surely win but he’s big odds on. With the finish line looming over the horizon I think we can take a punt on him going up another gear and for Price to have the Most 180s, Highest Checkout and to Win Match.
9.30pm: Michael van Gerwen v Chris Dobey – MvG Most 180s
MvG is even more fancied to win here than Price is in his quarter final but I have a feeling this contest will be actually be closer than the first. Van Gerwen disposed of the big scoring Dirk van Duijvenbode 4-1 in the last round while Dobey saw off Rob Cross in one of the few matches that didn’t end 4-1, 4-2.
Mighty Mike battered his compatriot DvD in the last round, banging in a 100+ average for the third time in a row in what was another ominous sign to his World Championship rivals. MvG only pinned three maximums in that game but we should expect better here. Dobey put in the performance of the lifetime against Cross and we’ll bet that he can’t repeat that and that MvG’s experience pays as Van Gerwen fires off the most 180s.
