India to Win
Sri Lanka have a terrible record against India in One Day International (ODI( cricket, winning just three of their last 20 matches against them. Furthermore, Sri Lanka have won just one ODI in India in the last 14 years. This poor record combined with India’s perfect start to the tournament suggests all signs point to an India win.
Dilshan Madushanka to be Top Sri Lankian Wicket-Taker
India have a high number of right-handed batters in their squad, against England seven of their top eight were right-handed – Ravindra Jadeja the only exception.
Sri Lanka’s bowling attack don’t have terrific past form against right-handers with only one player averaging below 29. That bowler is Dilshan Madushanka whose record is encouraging – 12 wickets at an average of 23.33 at a strike-rate of 21.8. Madushanka could be well-set to take wickets.
India to Win, and Both Teams to Score 325+ Runs Each
The Wankhede Stadium has hosted two of the highest totals at this World Cup, South Africa’s 399-7 and 382-5 against England and Bangladesh respectively.
The Mumbai venue has traditionally been a high-scoring venue and this tournament has been no different – the run-rate in this World Cup has been 7.01 runs per over, the highest of any ground. India to win, as tipped above, and both teams to score 325+ runs each.
Virat Kohli to be Top Indian Run-Scorer
Virat Kohli has had an unsurprisingly productive tournament so far, scoring 354 runs at 88.50. And this form is set to continue when considering his history against Sri Lanka. In 52 ODIs against them he has scored 2,506 runs at 62.65. When playing in India his average shoots up to 83.50. India’s star player to be India’s top run-scorer.
Mohammed Siraj top Indian Wicket-Taker
Mohammed Siraj’s record against Sri Lanka is quite remarkable. In five ODIs he has taken 16 wickets at 8.12, with a 13.0 strike-rate and economy of 3.75. Not even Sri Lanka’s main attacking weapon, Kusal Mendis, can go into this match with much confidence against Siraj – in nine deliveries he has faced from the India quick he has been dismissed three times.
