Tuesday 6am: England v Bangladesh Cricket World Cup group match at HPCA Stadium TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Cricket
England likely to get their first win of the tournament
Since Bangladesh knocked England out of the 2015 World Cup, England have dominated ODI meetings between the two sides, winning six out of eight. Joe Root (133*, The Oval 2017), Ben Stokes (101, Mirpur 2016) and Dawid Malan (114*, Mirpur 2023) have all scored centuries against The Tigers in that time. England will hope recent success can carry them to victory in Dharamsala.
Rashid well-set to take Bangladesh wickets
Adil Rashid has fond memories playing against Bangladesh. In ODIs he has taken 19 wickets in seven games, at an average of just under 17. The spinner is a good choice for Top England Wicket Taker.
Bangladesh have spin threats of their own. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan combined for figures of 6-62 off 18 overs in their win over Afghanistan, despite the pitch offering by far the lowest amount of turn we’ve seen so far this tournament. The pair’s economy rate was also just 3.44 runs per over. Shakib concentrated on varying his speed, ranging from 79kph to 89kph, whereas Mehidy kept the stumps in play throughout his spell, with 42% of his deliveries on track to hit the poles. One of those two could well be the Top Bangladesh Wicket Taker.
Shakib to be top Bangladesh run-scorer
Shakib Al Hasan has long been Bangladesh’s top performing batter and his stats back this up. Since 2018, Shakib has averaged at least 39.4 against every type of bowling in List-A cricket. Notably he averages 86 against left-arm pace. At least one of Sam Curran, Reece Topley and David Willey will play, if not two if England want to lengthen their batting while adding another bowling option, so the well-rounded Shakib will have plenty of opportunity to score runs against his favoured bowling type. Shakib to be Top Bangladesh Runscorer is worth a look.
Early wicket in the 1st innings
Both Afghanistan and Bangladesh managed to utilise the mountainous conditions and generate significant swing in their meeting at Dharamsala last Saturday. Only Delhi (1.23°) has seen a higher degree of average swing than the 1.19° inside the first powerplay. The fall of the 1st wicket to be under 27.5 is on.
