Cricket World Cup match at Narendra Modi Stadium

Topley to be top England wicket-taker

Reece Topley is finding a lot of movement in 2023, averaging 1.8 degrees of swing with the new ball. No seamer at the World Cup (min 100 balls) can better that this year. If England hand him the ball early, as they often do, then New Zealand’s top order may struggle.

When you also consider that Topley averages only 22 against left-handers in ODIs, New Zealand having potentially five southpaws in the top order (Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Jimmy Neesham, Mark Chapman and Tom Latham) gives them a real disadvantage. There’s a good chance Reece Topley is England’s top wicket-taker.

New Zealand to score most sixes

Devon Conway pounces on anything short from seamers, striking at 213 and only being dismissed by the delivery type once. Additionally, Tom Latham loves the short stuff. He averages 89 and has a strike rate of 189 against deliveries pitched shorter than 10m.

If England don’t get their lengths right they could be hit out the park by the Kiwis. As such, New Zealand to Score The Most Sixes is a nice price.

Harry Brook to be player of the match

Harry Brook may have been a late addition to the squad but his record in Asia makes him one to watch. He already has five centuries in the continent including a sparkling ton off just 55 balls in the IPL.

Add his three Test centuries against Pakistan, and one more in the PSL – his comfort in these conditions may make Brook a value shot as the Man Of The Match.

England to win

In the newly built Narendra Modi Stadium, a trend has already started to emerge. In the three ODIs it has hosted the first innings scores have only been 176, 237-9 and 265. England are exceptional at chasing, with Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone their finishers.

Buttler strikes at 177 during the final overs in ODIs, while Livingstone finishes strong in this period at a rate of 160. So if England bat second in Ahmedabad, their chances of victory are high. As such we’ll round off with England to Win.

Boult to dismiss Root

Joe Root has found himself a nemesis in Trent Boult. In 13 matches Boult has dismissed Root 5 times, at an average of just 18. Perhaps a reason for these struggles is Root’s discomfort against left-armers that nip back and swing into him.

Against right-handed deliveries that seam in he averages 34, however against left-armers, just like Boult, this figure dips to 12. Boult to dismiss Root in the WhatOddsPaddy markets has plenty of appeal.
