Ryder Cup: Eddie Hearn planning fight between Rory McIlroy & US caddie

Seconds out in the carpark

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is understood to be on the verge of announcing a fight between Ryder Cup hero Rory McIlroy and the USA caddie Joe LaCava who got under his skin.

After witnessing footage of McIlroy’s angry reaction in the course car park where he needed to be held back by teammates, Hearn, speaking via video link from his yacht believes this could be the fight to end all fights.

“We all saw the footage, McIlroy is clearly a bar room brawler ready to throw a few punches, so why not get him in the ring with that hat waving whopper.

“Let’s face it, he deserves a smack or two in the mush after his lairy antics,” said Hearn to Paddy Power News. “He wouldn’t get away with that down my local pitch-n-putt, mate.”

And the promoter is excited about the prospects for this golfing showdown.

“This has the potential to go down as bigger than anything ever put on by Muhammed Ali, Floyd Mayweather or Tyson Fury – at least until he fight Usyk.”

And with all roads leading to the title fight between the Gypsy King and Ukrainian bruiser, the Hearn camp have decided to throw a massive curve ball at the world of boxing by claiming McIlroy could go on to dominate the sport for the next ten years if he accepts their offer.

“Forget Fury and Usyk, based on what we saw over the weekend, McIlroy would stop both fighters in the first round.

“But it’s up to him if he wants to batter this caddy after hours in a car park and risk losing his PGA Tour card, or if he’d rather do it in a controlled environment, wearing boxing gloves, earning himself a load of pride and making me millions in the process,” continued Hearn.

“We’ll put a few Europe supporters versus some mouthy Yanks on the undercard. I can hear the pay-per-view tills ringing already!”

While McIlroy has a career defining decision to make, the same cannot be said for his Ryder Cup opponent, Rickie Fowler, who is believed to be sat in Rome airport alone having missed his flight home with the rest of Team USA.

Having conceded a putt in a questionable manner giving half a point to Team Europe’s Tommy Fleetwood, Fowler admitted he “couldn’t be arsed” to play golf any longer, was too lazy to get on his flight and is happy to live as a hermit inside terminal 3 of Leonardo da Vinci Airport forever.
