Dallas Mavericks @ Boston Celtics – NBA Finals
Best of seven  series begins Friday 01:30am
TV: TNT Sports

Series Spread: Boston Celtics -1.5

The NBA Finals are here as the Dallas Mavericks from the Western Conference take on Boston Celtics from the Eastern Conference.

Boston finished the regular season with the best record in the NBA and that has continued into the play-offs, with the Celtics winning their three series 4-1, 4-1 and 4-0. However, it’s worth noting that opposition teams suffered untimely injuries in every series.

Due to the Celtics having the better record, they’ll have home court advantage in the Finals, meaning four of the seven games (if seven are needed) will be in Boston. Therefore, if they win all of their outings at TD Garden, they’ll be the champs.

Dallas have had a brilliant play-off run behind the superstar backcourt of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, with the Mavericks beating LA Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, Boston have been dominating all season and it’s hard to see that stopping on the biggest stage.

Our first outright pick is Celtics -1.5 on the Series Spread, which means Boston need to win the series by two or more games.

They’ve done this in every series of this year’s play-offs and even if the Finals finishes 4-2 with the Mavericks taking a couple of games, this selection will still land.

The Celtics lost in the play-offs in 2022 against the Golden State Warriors but Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will be determined to win their first championship.

Series Most Total Rebounds: Jayson Tatum

Doncic will finish as the Top Points Scorer in the Finals and he’ll also have the Most Total Assists, however, it’s not worth getting behind at the odds.

Instead, we’re looking at Most Total Rebounds, which seems a toss up between Tatum and Doncic – but we’re siding with the Celtics man.

Point guard Doncic, who is 6ft 7in, averaged a stunning 9.2 rebounds per game in the regular season and that has improved to 9.6 boards per outing in the post-season.

However, backing Tatum, who is a 6ft 8in forward, makes plenty of sense. The Celtics superstar grabbed an average of 8.1 rebounds in the regular season but that has jumped to 10.4 in the play-offs.

Tatum has finished with 10 or more rebounds in eight of his last 10 games and that will likely continue in the Finals. The Celtics man has been crashing the glass all post-season and due to the ramifications of this series, he’ll be fired up once again.

Series Most Total Made 3’s: Luka Doncic

Doncic scooped the NBA scoring title this regular season after dropping an average of 33.9 points per game.

That number has slightly dipped in the post-season, with Doncic putting up an average of 28.8 points per outing, which is still more than Boston’s top scorer Tatum (26 points per game).

A large chunk of Doncic’s scoring comes from him shooting from three-point range, with the Slovenian averaging 9.8 threes per game, with an average of 3.4 going in.

Doncic will also play almost every minute of the Finals so he’ll have plenty of opportunities to drain threes.

His main threat is Boston’s X-Factor Derrick White, who takes just over eight threes and makes an average of 3.4 per game just like Doncic. However, the point guard has the ball a lot less than his Dallas counterpart so we’ll side with Mavericks man.

Series Correct Score: Boston Celtics 4-2

We’ve mentioned that we expect the Celtics to win the series and become champs so that just leaves the question: How many games will the Mavericks win?

Dallas have been brilliant in the play-offs behind Doncic and former Celtics guard Irving and while the pair have been better defensively in the play-offs, Boston should just have too much quality and depth.

The Celtics have lost just two of their 14 play-off games and they will likely target Doncic and Irving on defence.

The Mavericks duo are sensational offensively and we expect them to drag Dallas to a couple of wins, however, it’s hard to see them snatching more than two games in the Finals.

Series Exact Order: G1 BOS, G2 DAL, G3 BOS, G4 DAL, G5 BOS, G6 BOS

Lastly, we’re taking a punt on the exact order of wins in the Finals, which as you can tell from the price, is a small-stakes play.

The order of which team hosts games goes: Boston, Boston, Dallas, Dallas, Boston, Dallas, Boston.

We’re actually siding with the Mavericks to steal a game on the road in the first couple of Finals outings, with the series tied at 1-1 heading back to Dallas for game three.

Boston will likely bounce back and take a 2-1 lead before Dallas respond to even it out thanks to some Doncic magic before game five at TD Garden.

With the series tied at 2-2, Boston will win game five at home and be full of confidence heading to Dallas for game six. The Celtics will grind it out in a tight affair as Tatum and Brown win their first championship. Seems obvious, doesn’t it?
