Monday 01:00: Minnesota Timberwolves @ Dallas Mavericks
Western Conference Finals Game 3
Series score: Timberwolves 0-2 Mavericks
TV: TNT Sports, Stream Live on PaddyPower.com once you place a bet on the game
The Eastern Conference finalists look to be done and dusted after the Celtics edged 114-111 win over the Pacers with a 13-2 run in final minutes of game three in their series. No team has ever comeback from 3-0 down to win a playoff series and with Tyrese Halliburton hobbled, there’s little reason to expect Indiana to make history in the coming week.
In the West, Minnesota might fancy their chances still even if they lose on Sunday night and go 3-0 down to Dallas, but the likelihood of even forcing a game seven are infinitesimally small when a team loses the first three games of a playoff match-up, so tonight’s game really is pivotal.
Win, and the T-wolves are right back into the NBA title conversation, lose, and you can leave their trophy aspirations on read til next season.
1st Half Match Betting (3-Way): Minnesota
Just four points in aggregate have separated these teams through two games so far. Such fine margins make calling game three for either side a risky proposition, even if the return to Dallas makes the home team a 2.5-point favourites.
Rather, we should try to count on something we’re sure of. The Timberwolves know they are done if they lose this game. While both games in the series has been come down to late moments of magic, which side leads at the half shouldn’t be nearly s hotly contested.
The Wolves need to bounce back after the crushing manner of their game two loss. We’d expect them to show that fight in the opening 24 minutes – remember, they led by as much as 18 points in the last game before half-time and a mighty Dallas comeback caught them late. We’ll take Minnesota to win the first half.
Luka Doncic Over 29.5 Points
We expressed some doubt earlier in the playoffs about the health of the Slovene phenom as he laboured against the Thunder, but his knee sprain seems to have adequately healed allowing him to become the destroyer of worlds we are familiar with.
Aside from his turning Rudy Gobert inside-out before hitting the step-back game-winning three with seconds left on the clock in game two, Doncic has four triple-doubles in his last five games, a feat only matched by Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson and Nikola Jokic in playoffs history.
He’s averaged over 30 points in the last four games, he’s back on home court, and the series can be all-but-sealed with another win – we’d expect him to deliver again and hit the over.
Dereck Lively Over 7.5 Rebounds
The Mavs centre has seen an up-tick in minutes over the last few weeks and is rewarding the faith being shown in him with striking +/- marks on the positive side in the teens and twenties through their recent playoff match-ups.
He’s also shooting 100% in this series, going 10-for-10 on field-goals go far. That can’t continue but his performances on the boards look more sustainable, where the rookie has bested this number in five of the last six games. He should have the game-time to do it again on Sunday night.
