Watch: Arsene Wenger coldly throws shade on Kyle Walker’s defensive abilities

You wouldn’t expect the former Arsenal boss to have any love for an ex-Spurs man, but he’s be waiting to use this one…

During his 22 years at Arsenal, it wouldn’t be too harsh to accuse Arsene Wenger of maybe forgetting how to coach defenders as his time went on.

After finally ending his stint at the club this summer, Wenger’s next gig has been working as a pundit for the Qatar-based sports network beIN Sports during the World Cup.

Now, given that Kyle Walker opposed Wenger’s Arsenal in many North London derbies during his time at Tottenham, you wouldn’t expect the him to be especially warm towards the England international.

However, during his pre-match comments before England’s 6-1 demolition of Panama Wenger savaged the Man City man’s defensive qualities and even went as far as saying Walker was “not a real defender”.

He went on to say: “He’s especially not a central defender and he can be subject to make defensive mistakes, which he would not pay for when he plays on the right.”

We wonder what he thought after seeing that beautiful sliding clearance in the first half?

Wenger would also wonder aloud about Eric Dier’s absence from the starting line-up, but given the result, we’re backing Gareth on this one!
