Wonderful weekend for Irish punter as he turns €16 into over €46k

A 10-leg acca landed to send the Cork man into dreamland

A punter from Co Cork in Ireland found himself €46,347 richer this weekend after amazingly seeing a 10-leg accumulator come good.

What makes the lucky Irishman’s Saturday bet more remarkable is not only did it include a handicap football bet, he also had FOUR winning horses in the acca as well.

The win, which came from just a €16 stake, now sees the Cork punter, 27, gain a spot in Paddy Power’s coveted Punting Hall of Fame.

Let’s tell you how he did it!

The magic bet

Like all accas of this size our hero needed a lot of luck along the way, but thankfully for him it held tighter than Big Sam’s waistband to score the cash.

Having placed his bet late on Friday, it was an early kick-off for our punter’s acca with a win for Sevilla away at Langanes first on the hit list.

He was made to sweat for it though, as Pablo Sarabia popped up with five minutes to go to give Sevilla a 3-2 victory. Stamford Bridge was his next port of call and a home success for Chelsea came in with ease over champions Leicester to make two-for-two.

Four afternoon matches were next on the cards as the Corkman hunted wins for Arsenal, Newcastle, Derby and a (-1.0) victory for Barcelona. Newcastle and Barcelona did their business comfortably, but Arsenal and Derby would have been giving our hall of famer heart palpitations with their respective performances.

Mesut Ozil put the Gunners seemingly out of sight at 3-1 in the 57th minute and it looked plain sailing from there. However, Wenger’s men love to make it hard for themselves and they were hit with a Borja Baston’s goal as well as red card to Granit Xhaka to leave them 20 agonising minutes to just cling onto a 3-2 win.

Derby also just about managed a 1-0 victory for new manager Steve McClaren. It could have all been very different for our champion punter however had Marcus Antonsson’s 96th minute effort for Leeds gone in off the post instead of coming back out off it.

After wrapping up the six football legs of his acca, our punter had four horses left on his bet slip to land the over 46k prize.

Boreham Bill made it seventh heaven winning the 4.30pm at Market Rasen and it was an excellent eight for our crafty Cork man as Presenting Julio was first past the post in the 5.30pm at Stratford.

He would have got the wobbles watching the 5.45pm at Wolverhampton, but thankfully Waneen managed to pip the race for him by a head. This left his entire bet riding on Munawer’s hooves in the 7.45pm at the same course.

Munawer was having none of the challenge of 66/1 shot Royal Melody and romped to victory to increase our punter’s winning total to a whopping €46,347 by 7.47pm.

When asked about the win spokesman Paddy Power said: “This crazy acca was more creative than Arsenal’s midfield, so fair play to the Cork man for landing it.

We don’t mind having our pants pulled down once in a while and there’s no doubt this one deserves it’s place in our Punting Hall of Fame.”

What a bloody Saturday! Spots in the Punting Hall of Fame are rare, but this bet most certainly has earned its entry for the cunning Cork man.

Almost unbelievably things could have been even better for the punter as he just missed out on a €20 12-fold, which included two football draws, for another €230,197. 11/10 shot Beast of Burden let him down in the 3pm at Ffos Las for what could have been his own wing in the Punting Hall of Fame.

When asked his thought process behind the bet the Cork punter, who wishes to remain anonymous, said there was “a bit of science” behind his bet.

“I’d be clued up on soccer and racing so there was a bit of science behind my selections and I thought I’d take a chance on the crazy acca,” said the Cork punter.

“I was over at a mate’s for the for the final race and when it came in we went mental. Many beers were drunk, I’m still recovering today!

“I was a bit sad the other bet didn’t come it, but I’m delighted with the win.”

When we asked what he plans to spend his winnings on, a new car topped the list for our mega-winner.
