Punters think the song contest is a done deal

Eurovision Song Contest 2016, Saturday 8.00pm

Eurovision is back in on our screens this weekend, which means it’s time to dust down your cheesy, camp costumes and arm yourselves with out-dated national stereotypes. No other competition can unite people through the medium of bad music, and come Saturday night you’ll be praying the Swedish judges give you ‘douze points’.

This year’s event promises an another surreal evening of weird and wonderful Euro-pop, and if just in case you needed a ‘cool’ excuse to watch it there could be some money to be made.

That’s because over the last few days there has been a flood of money coming for the Russian act Sergey Lazarev. Now we’re far to hipster to know what the song is like, but the Paddy Power traders tell us that the amount of cash coming for the Russian is significant and consequently we make him a shot to win on Saturday night.

Almost half of all the cash on the Eurovision market is on Russia, with Australia (!) the next most popular punt. Australian act Dami Im is in the betting, to give the lads Down Under something to celebrate this weekend. France (), Sweden () and Ukraine () have all had pieces of support while nobody seems keen to back the UK’s Joe and Jake at . There’s hardly been a patriotic penny on the duo who both performed on the 2015 series of The Voice.

However if you’re having a punt on Saturday’s main event, and you’re Euro-pop knowledge isn’t quite up to scratch, it sees wise to stick with Russia. The punters keep on coming…

What do you think?
